    Review: CG Glossworkz Glaze

    Review: CG Glossworkz Glaze

    Introduction:

I haven`t done a real review in a long time - mostly because I use the same products for most of my details. Yesterday`s detail gave me the opportunity to use one I`ve had laying around since it was released (about 2 years) but hadn`t used.

Now, I know there are some hoity-toity, holier than thou types ready to flame me as a hack for using a glaze on a car rather than spending hours and hours grinding on the paint perfecting it. Well, on this car (previously seen in http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/...d-weekend.html and http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/...t-vehicle.html), said flamers would have needed to burn through the clearcoat, base coat and primer properly level the paint. And, as it lives outdoors 24/7 & receives questionable maintenance when not in my hands, it would return to its prior state inside of 3 months. Also, the owner was made aware of my intentions so in no way was victim of a bait & switch, expensive miracle detail.

Thanks again to Corey for providing the format.

    Product

    Product Claims:

From Autopia Car Care site - Chemical Guys Glossworkz Glaze 16 oz.

"Works with your paint to create a deep, wet looking shine!

Fills in paint defects to maintain paint thickness
Adds UV protection to the paint
Can be used by hand or machine

Chemical Guys Glossworkz Glaze creates a swirl-free appearance and a deep, wet looking shine without thinning your paint. Chemical Guys Glossworkz Glaze will immediately improve your paint`s appearance due to its excellent swirl filling ability. Your paint will appear wet and will radiate with an even looking shine that looks like it took hours or days to achieve. Now you can create the appearance of perfect finish on less than perfect paints!

Swirl marks create an uneven surface that diffuses reflected light and dulls the shine. Chemical Guy`s Glossworkz Glaze coats the surface with a durable cross linking agents that self level, creating a level surface for even reflections. The result is a more intense shine. This glaze is supercharged with powerful UV absorbers to add additional protection against sun fade.

Modern factory applied paint is thin. We love the gloss and clarity that swirl-free paint radiates; polishing your paint with a machine and abrasives is not always the best option. Applying Glossworkz Glaze before your favorite wax or sealant will create the appearance of swirl-free paint while adding valuable UV protection. This glaze`s ability to create a deep, wet shine will even improve the appearance of highly polished paint. All paint systems will benefit from the added UV protection.

You can apply Chemical Guy`s Glossworkz Glaze by hand or dual action polisher. By hand: Use a microfiber applicator and apply to a small section in straight motions until it begins to haze. Remove residue with a soft microfiber towel. By dual action polisher: Use a soft finishing or waxing pad on speed 3 to 4. Work a section at time using overlapping passes until Glossworkz Glaze begins to haze. Wipe away residues with a soft microfiber towel. In both cases, use your favorite wax or sealant to lock in the shine and add even more gloss."

    Details:

    1.- Packaging: Plastic squeeze
    2.- Directions: Clearly labeled
    3.- Viscosity: Thick
    4.- Color: Sea foam
    5.- Scent: Watermelon ?
    6.- Dilution: N/A
7.- Price at time of review: 16oz = $ 29.99 (Holy crap! Glad I got it a long time ago. )
    8.- Manufacturer: Chemical Guys
    9.- Made in: USA

    Other Products Used:

    MF

    Preparation:

Wash - clay - compound - polish - seal - wax. In this case, I omitted the compounding and polishing - using CG GG as a paint prep/seal.

    Application:

I machine applied it with my trusty RUPES 21 on 3 with a 6” orange CCS pad. Worked it in a 2x2 area for 30-60 seconds and wiped with a clean MF.

    Observations:

Pleasant scent. Fills like a mo-fo. Easy wipe off with no dust or oily residue. Very slick. A joy to use. Topped it with 2 coats of Opti Car Wax for added durability.

    After.

Now do you see why I was moved to write this review?

Does it meet its claims? Yes.

    Pros:

    1.- Pleasant scent
    2.- Great fill
    3.- Some protection
4.- Quick and easy to use.

    ???:

    1.- Durability.

    Cons:

1.- At $29.99 for 16oz, rather expensive. But, in this car`s case, was well worth it.

    Final Observations and Summary:

I was really proud of the Detailer`s Prayer I quipped a couple of years ago: "Grant me the power tools to correct what I can, fillers to cover what I can`t, and the wisdom to know the difference." I don`t glaze cars often. I like doing epic polish jobs as much as anyone. But there is a time and place where that is not the best path.

CG called this line of products "Gloss Enhancers" in the old days. Based on my experience, they contain chemical cleaners, filler and offer some protection. And CG Glossworkz Glaze works as described. No complaints.

Recommended - in the right circumstance and only with full disclosure to the car owner. It will not last as long or look quite as good IMHO on a lovingly maintained car as a proper paint leveling but offers a lot to cars that, for whatever reason, need paint love but can’t get the full Monty.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

    Now, let the flames begin.

No flames. Sometimes addition trumps subtraction....and added gloss ain`t bad either.

    Re: Review: CG Glossworkz Glaze

No flames here Mike. Outstanding review. I feel that glazes and gloss enhances have a place in our arsenal. We only have so much clearcoat on our cars. I always find it funny to the folks that like but out their rotary and PC`s to "chase every swirl and RID".

Granted we are all out for perfection but I learned a long time ago that as I long as I keep up with proper washing and drying methods that my cars will look better than 90% off the cars on the road.

I have used CG Glossworks and it worked extremely well on my black 350Z.

I just used it a few weeks back on my red Camry, I`m officially off the polish till you puke train and now prefer to just wash, wax and glaze when needed.

Nice review! I love CG GG too. Wet Glaze 2.0 is my fav though. This stuff is great for that added gloss on a show or weekend car or the guy that just doesn`t have the time, patience or equipment to do a full correction and maintenance program.

    Dear Mike

Thank you very much for sharing your experience.

That Detailer`s Prayer is awesome. I saved it for future reference, direction, and personal forgiveness.
