Just put VCT (Vinyl Composition Tile) on my garage floor this past weekend (24` x 15`) and it looks great. I used an alternating black and white color to resemble a winner`s flag. My wife thought I was crazy doing this but after she saw how it looked with 7 coats of floor wax on it she wants the other garage (3 car BIG garage) done too. It is even less slippery than the painted floor that was there before. It was pretty simple to do, just alot of bending over on hands and knees. I`ll post some pics when I get back in town.

I`d love to see some pictures as well as information on floor prep and cost of the tiles.

The prep was quite easy, start with a clean concrete floor with no oil or grease and with any major cracks filled in. My floor was in good shape, just had lifted paint where hot wheels had pulled it up. I just mopped it with a strong bleach solution and went to work. The bonding agent you put on is very thin and is put on with a special trowel that only leaves a 1/16th inch tooth height.

The cost was 60 cents per square foot tile for VCT from Home Depot. The glue was $45 for a 3 gallon container (I bought way too much). The whole job was about $350. I had quotes from professionals for $3/sqft and so would have been over $1000 for my 24`x15` garage.

In my garage, that`s a contradiction of terms. It is neither clean, oil-less, grease-less or crack-free. 30+ years old and never painted, sealed or anything...

Do you plan to move vehicles in and out of this garage on a regular basis? Will the heat from the tires deteriorate the floor wax?

I guess I`ll have to wait and see how the wax reacts to the tires. I won`t be putting a car in this garage until December (2003 Porsche Turbo on order ).

what floor finish did you use? i`m curious since i sell that sort of stuff, if you want my opinion the finish with the deepest gloss i`ve seen is one from a company called Taski, Taski Vision Star. The nice thing about it is when you do have to strip it, it comes off really easy, but when its on the floor durability is nice as well.

I`m out of town again and won`t be able to check for two weeks since I don`t remember what brand it was. I got it at Home Depot so it wasn`t anything special. Might have been Armstrong but I`m not sure.
