Mobile Shade Solutions? - 07-29-2010, 11:13 PM

Big trees are hard to find in new development areas and business complexes. Garages are not always available and I do not drive my clients cars to one. I provide mobile, on-site service where they hand me their keys and the client goes into their office building.

I've been using a popup canopy for about two years now and after a month of use, it got troublesome. Sometimes I cannot help but to feel like a jackass struggling to set up a pop-up canopy on my own. Expanding it from one corner, in order to lock it fully open, can be difficult. I hate being ineffecient

I've thought of a expandalbe sail-shade solution to engineer but I'd like to get more input first. Ya'll have any ideas or solutions? Show some pics of your setup if you have them. Thanks guys!

Have you ever seen the roll out awnings that will attach to your truck. Just a thought, good luck.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read his post.

Those can be put up or down by one person with ease.

Offset patio umbrella could work, especially when you can't park right next to the car being detailed to use your awning. The heavy base could be a problem unless you could fill it with water on-site.

there are ways to make EZ ups go up easier ... saw a guy a few years ago who put wheels on the bottom of each leg .. never saw one go up or come down easier... just remember to get locking wheels or remove them after set-up ..also make sure you have a top quality one from EZ-UP the competitors tents are not as good or as easy to use by yourself.. I've done the set up and breakdown hundreds of times by myself.

life is short ..do it while you can

I don't have an EZ-UP brand canopy, but mine (10x10) is still rather easy to set up by myself. I just go corner to corner until I've got it up. The motion might seem redundant, because it is, but the overall time to set up and take down isn't all that long and the benefit easily outweighs any minor inconvenience. The biggest issue is, of course, wind. I've got the leg weights but sometimes that isn't enough.

Thank you atkinsonair but I think this one is way too small. If it extended back from my tailgate like 15' I think I could pull it off but I'm not always able to park directly behind the car I'm working on. More often than not, I'm in the next parking spot. I'll have to post an image of what I'm thinking of building.

I was thinking about tryin to find one of those roll out canopies, similar to what rv's have on the side of them. If you have an enclosed trailer, you could mount it on the side of it...
