Wastewater Discharge

I read somewhere that for a fixed location detail shop, you have to have a sewer system with a sand trap and oil separator. If this is true, how expensive is it to put one of these in a location that doesn't already have one, and how aggressive is the EPA cracking down on this? How common is it to find a location with one already installed?

It all depends on your location. You need to call your local building department and find out for sure.

They are not cheap to have done, especially if there is no floor drain in it at all.
