help w/ start up - 08-25-2007, 09:45 AM

o.k. here it is i have been detailing some time now and up until this year it's been on someone else's dime.....however it was time to step out this year and so i have taken out a yellow pages ad, filed my fictious name, city license.......my ? is where to next i dont have a cpa as of now and i want to make sure the irs is bothering other people then me so what are some steps to follow to ensure a happy business?..........also i'm the only licensed detailer in my county all of the other 12 "car washers" are cheating nothing but profit when your not paying taxes however they are driving the pricing down what should i do? my wife works at the court house and the code enforcement guy is a friend of hers so should i mention it would be nice for every one to have an equal playing field or just let this go?

I would use the fact that you are licensed as a selling point. We have plenty here that aren't licensed or insured. I say let them have the price shoppers. Go after the people who want top quality work. It's just another thing that shows that you are more professional than these guys. It gives you an advantage when you are approached with contract work too.

Be careful with a yellow page ad. They don't always pay off. I would start with Craig's list cuz it's free. Jngrbrdman will help you get some nice ads going on there I bet if you ask him.

It's a way for your city to suck money from you. To be legit you need to get a license to do business in the areas you do business in.

Oh, right. I don't even have the option here. City hall hasn't thought that through.
