Hope to start small business detailing.......

Hi there,

Well I have always been "backyard" detailer with all of my cars. I have found this forum and I am absolutely blown away. I hope to spend countelss hours doing research this winter with a little practice as well. I plan on starting a small detailing business on the side maybe doing 1-2 cars a week in the spring. I own 2 extremely low mileage cars that are garage queens and never driven. I actually enjoy detailing them (eventhoug they don't need it) then driving them. People think I am crazy having $40k in cars sitting in my garage.

Anyway, I am looking for some business names that sound good to ear and garner attention of prospective clients. Any ideas?

In my opinion, a detailer like you who does a small number of cars per week part-time doesn't need an eye-catching name. If you name your business "(Your Name)'s Auto Detailing," clients will get the impression that you are a low-volume detailer who will do a 1st class job without rushing to get it done and will do it with the best products available. Sort of a more personal experience between you and your client.

I am only do this as a hobby and hope to pay for my products and may a few dollars. It's not a money thing, just love working on cars. I would do everything but interior shampoo. Do you guys do this?

I came up with my buisness name.

That's a great name. I only did a couple of cars this past summer, and I shampooed the floormats and wherever the interior was stained. It doesn't take all that long, and you can pick up some Blue Coral Dri-Clean locally.

Did you just use your shop vac afterwards? My friend owns a local maintenance company and I was thinking out sub-contracting the interior shampooing?

Yeah, I first shopvac the mats/stains in the first place, then shampoo with Turtle Wax Power Out (I've heard the Blue Coral is better though) and a brush, following instructions. I wipe off some of the excess liquid, but the rest just dries fine. Then, I shopvac again to get all the dirt that was surfaced thanks to the shampoo. If there are bad stains, Resolve is amazing and available at Costco. Gum gets out with Goo Gone and some scraping. My process isn't the best; I don't use an extractor or anything, but it's a basic process that is quick, easy, and surfaces quite a bit more dirt.

Considering that you are only going to be looking for a few cars a month to detail, the name doesn't really need to attract people because obviously you won't be advertising. Advertising would create more than a couple cars a week. I go by word of mouth and I very much doubt that anybody really references me by the name I have chosen to operate under. They just refer their friends to their friend Anthony who details cars on the side. OCDetails is catchy and gave me something to build a website around, but I really don't do any other advertising under that name other than my business cards.

My buddy and I opperate under the name Prestine Machines.

Not a lot of our business comes from the liking of our name, usually they have just heard we do a great job for a good price.
