Staring a small detailing business (long but please help) - 08-13-2005, 05:56 PM

I want to start a small detailing business just to make some money while I'm in the process of finding a real job. I relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC about a month ago because I graduated from college and my parents were moving down here from Northern VA....so I had no where to go but Myrtle because its so expensive to live in NOVA, especially just starting out. Now that I'm done helping my mom unpack, landscape, put furniture together...blah blah, I'm trying to find a career between here in SC and as far north as VA Beach where my girlfriend lives. While I"m trying to find a career, I want to make some money in order just to pay my cellphone bill, gas and start taking over the car insurance and just save money in case I need to move and to be able to put in a security deposit down on an apartment or something with my girlfriend. I've been detailing since I was 15(now 22), I have all the right equipment except a carpet extractor and rotary so I want to start doing some detailing here in my neighborhood for neighbors and whoever else gets in contact with me. I was going to do a form of mobile detailing as long as the customer would supply me water and electricity or they could bring the car to me at my home. I was going to make up a little flyer to put up in the Residents Club and invest in an add to put in the community newsletter. Would I be operating an illegal business if I wasn't reporting my income to the state of SC or something? Could someone help me out so I can better understand the process or making my "side" business as legal as possible so I don't get turned in? Thanks guys/girls, I know you will be able to help me in some way. Or if you know someone with a job connection in Southeast VA, NC or SC, please let me know.
