Proper Auto Care Guide: Meguiars M105 and M205 Polish/Pad Application

Meguiar`s M105 and M205 are very difficult to rate in terms of cut and finish because each one has literally limitless potential. These products cut over time, so the total amount of cut is set in stone over a given time frame. Instead these polishes provide a near constant level of cut for the length of time they are worked.

The term aggressiveness in this chart refers to the rate of cut vs. the amount of cut.

As a disclaimer it should be noted that Meguiar`s does not offically endorse the 7207 pad for use with a Dual Action Orbital Polisher such as a Porter Cable or G110. We understand this is an exceptional foam to use on a Dual Action and that many of our customers will use it as such. Care should be taken to ensure that the pad is fully dry before use with a Dual-Action polisher, and always use in conjunction with the appropriate Meguiar`s backing plate.

Hi Todd, thanks for drawing up this cool chart. Which pads perform better? The LLC or the Meg`s? I have some Meg`s 8006 pads. Where do you think they would fall on this chart? I just came across them on a clearance sale at a automotive paint store.

Just confused how the technique to get the lowest cut level with 205 as shown on the chart using DA? I`m new to DA, while now i can produce acceptable result on black (i suppose the paint is medium to soft, since it`s a japanese make and using W8207 alone without following with W9207 still left very, very faint haze) and it`s haze free, but i`m curious if there`re any particular technique to get the lowest cut level of M205 with idea to burnish the paint as fine as it can be done? So far using this combo (DA + M205 + W8207 + W9207) on medium to soft paints (without relatively deep scratch which need UC or M105) yield good results but all that i did just (KBMoM) prime the pad, moderate pressure till end, keep the pad clean (if not possible / caked with product and removed paint then switch to clean one) then bump! The result was LSP ready. Is there any particular technique (pressure, movement, etc) to adjust level of cut from a pad (especially in finishing step with appropriate pad, as in my case is W9207) to burnish / get finest result possible?
