I smell fish. Especially since he wants you"we" to pay the tow truck driver. And the bad grammar.

I dunno if you would want to work on this guys car if he doesnt sign something saying he agrees to services and the registration matches his name.

Have received a few like this. Always delete immediately. The first sign is that their grammar is worse than a toddler`s and they can afford these nice vehicles for their teenagers and to pay cash for all repairs, but for some reason can`t have the vehicle towed to them.

I was 99% sure it was a scam. The only reason I wanted to check is because I looked up the guys name and there is someone near my old shop with that name and the gmail email had his name in the address. I guess they just pick a random name in the area and put it in the email.

something similar happened to me last year.

I think his (the person you knew) email account got hacked and now it (whoever he is) is making its round on his address book.

The message looks like it was done in another language then was translated using a cheap translation software. This doesn`t look good. I hope you didn`t open any links that was in the email. If you did then your email might be infected as well. For a safe measure, change your password on your account and scan your computer for Malwares ASAP by using your anti-virus programs. Also.....Download a free software called "SuperAntiSpyware" and run it. It would disclose all the add-wares and other nasty stuff on your system so that you could remove them.

    Good Luck.

There were no attachments or links and I def would not open one. I have Security+ and a few other IT certifications, so I`m very familiar with malware and the such. I actually recommend a program called Spybot Search and Destroy, it`s one of the best out there. I think it`s just someone trying to get my info and then in future emails he would try to get my bank account info and stuff if I fell for it. Since they used an actual person`s name in the email, I wanted to make sure I wasn`t missing out on a potential job, I`ve never seen this particular type of scam so wanted to be sure. I don`t know this person so there`s no way I`m in his address book or he`s in mine so I`m sure I`m safe. I run Spybot and AVG antivirus daily so no worries. Thanks though! Good lookin out!

I did change my password though, juuust in case.

100% a scam. As others have said, that scam has been posted before. Also, whenever they say that they are "hearing impaired" or make any mention of a tow truck its always a scam.

We receive a lot of operator assisted calls trying to scam us with all kinds of nonsense stories vehicle broke down in Florida, Colorado these are are obviously ridiculous why would you want to send a vehicle 5000 miles across the country to fix. The difficulty is we actually have to listen to the calls because we do have clients that are hearing and speaking impaired who use our services ...so we just can`t slam the phone down as much as we would like to.

I always have anything set up between car carriers and myself. It is also noted with all carriers that I Do Not cover any shipping charges. Without owners prepaid or established payment to and from there is no deal.

Any shipper will be in open communication with you directly if its for real. All companies I work with have my cell #.
One day I`ll get to do my own car.

Most people usually do not ship Lincoln navigators nor ford explorers 5000 miles away to fix them... and a lot of volume shops can produce as good a quality of work and better than some here... quite frankly I am a bit sick of this eletist attitude and generalizing of detailers who produce work in volume.
