I have some swirl marks and scratches on my black BMW so I have been doing some research about detailing.

I stopped in at a local body shop to ask what I needed done to take out the swirls. The owner said that they had to hit it with the buffer and heat up the clear coat and move it and work it around to take out the swirls. This kind of goes against everything I have been reading. I thought that is how you got swirls to begin with.

    Help. Is this correct?

You heat up the clear coat and work it around. You might do that to a clear bra but a clear coat you have to physically either remove some clear to the level of the scratches or reduce the appearance by rounding off their edges.

Does $125 sound right for them to wet sand and then buff the hood, trunk and back wheel wells?

    Thanks!

That sounds like a dealership/bodyshop hack in the making.

If I were you, i`d stay away from this fella.

Yeah, and it seems like that is all we have around here. No real detailers.

That sounds ridiculously cheap. I would not expect quality work at that price.

QFT. We start at $60 an hour for wetsanding plus materials and that is relatively inexpensive compared to what a lot of guys are charging.
