How many times can you 'PC' your car?
I`m just curious...how many times can one `PC` their car before finally going through all of your factory clear?
I know it removes a very, very slight amount of clear each time you buff...but how many times can you do it before you go all the way through?
:thanks
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
not sure how many times but i normally use the rotary.. and i`ve wet sanded my hood.... speaking of i do need to polish her out again...
;)
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
I guess it really all depends on what type of polish and pad you use. If you use SSR3 and a high cut pad on 6 every time, you`ll go through the clear faster than someone who only uses a finishing polish and a finishing pad.
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
It would depend a great deal on the product and the pad.
With the products most of us use, I would guess the PC will wear out before your clearcoat does. :)
Stick with polishing pads and milder polishes and I think you can go for years. Our 2000 GTP has had the PC used on it since 2002 when I first got the PC.
I actually only really polish to remove swirls a couple of times a year and then only in the areas that need it. An AIO type of product about every 3 or 4 months and a wax/sealant by hand every 4 to 6 weeks.

ECHO.....
 :howdy
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
Also, not all manufacturers apply the same thickness of clear... All depends!
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
This is a good question!
With a PC I don`t think that it would be possible to burn or go threw the clear..I`m not saying its not possible...the thickness of the clear, pad, speed and product...would have a bearing on this,...but for the average person..using it on their car, even once a month.. I couldn`t see this happening...you would have to be pretty aggressive to make that happen
that`s my opinion
With a rotary that`s a whole different thing...but that`s not what you asked

I probably could have beat both you and Patrick, but as usual, I had to write a book. :D

I agree with most of what has been said:rockon
It is almost impossible to go through "factory" clear with a PC, a repaint would be another story. I have heard of people going through repainted finishes with a PC because of poor workmanship and not enough clear. :)

Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
I run the PC over mine 2 times a year
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
It would take a very long time, but if the pad and product were aggressive enough, I imagine it could be done.

I do not use a paint gauge so I don`t know for sure, but I`ve always thought and have been told by painters that repaints usually have quite a bit more base and clear than the factory puts on.:hmmm:
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
When I worked as a paint and body tech, yes, we put on more base than clear. Unless the customer requested additional coats. One guy wanted 10 coats
Re: How many times can you 'PC' your car?
dewalt buffer, diamond cut and polish id say 10 times..
PC about 50 times..??
