Swirl removal tommorow!!!! Attemp lol. - 03-17-2010, 09:02 PM

Sorry for the double post, I just need answers before tommorow morning lol

I am going to use my porter cable to attempt to remove my swirls tommorow! I only have an orange edge 2k double sided pad. So how does this sound? SSR2.5 with orange pad at setting 5.5. Followed by SSR1 with orange pad on setting 2. Next SSR1 by hand with microfiber pad. Then nattys regular by hand. Do i have to follow up the ssr1 by hand or is the orange pad light enough to eliminate any hazing?

It really sounds like you need another pad. I am assuming an orange pad is a cutting pad, although I can't be positive. I think you'll likely wind up with micro marring if you try and finish down with a cut pad.

I don't believe in grit guards.

If you only have one pad, then that's what you'll have to use though honestly IMO you'll need a polishing pad or finishing pad to derive the best results. I can't find the orange Edge pad, so I'm guessing it is intended for light cutting. So I'll suppose that pad combined w/ SSR 2.5 with go some ways in eliminating (or reducing) the amount of swirls. Flip it over and try it with the SSR 1, but again that is likely not the optimum combination for finishing. After that I would go straight to Natty's forgoing the SSR1 by hand step. For the future I would invest in some polishing and or finishing pads.

Edit: I see JP weighed in ahead of me. We seem to agree, so it must be right.

Since I lost my finishing pad, can I just use SSR1 by hand with a microfiber pad??? If so what is the best way to work the product in?

My suggestion is to buy a polishing pad and then when you have all of the tools required to do the job, commence.

Is it possible to buy a polishing bad from a local auto parts store? I have the edge 2k adapter for my pc, so i am guessing i will have to purchase the backing plate as well. Does poorboys world sell edge 2k pads??? If so I can take a ride down there tommorow and pick the pad up and some product .

poorboysworld.com

It doesn't appear that PB carries the Edge pad system, but you can look to see what he has and give him a call in the a.m. to verify stock.
