Just picked it up yesterday. Only problem is the dealer had Ziebart put their Diamond Gloss treatment on it. All I know about DG is what little I've read about it online, which is mostly good. As a believer in Poorboy's I'm itching to clay it off & hit it with Black Hole, EX, & a few coats of Natty's. It's going to be garage kept, & rarely if ever driven in bad weather. The finish looks pretty darn great as is. Anyone here know much about Diamond Gloss?

Don't know about DG, but the mention of Ziebart takes me waaayyy back... "It's us or rust." In the Northeast, in the sixties and seventies, you either applied Ziebart very soon after purchase, or you had quarter-sized rust holes in all lower panels and most edges after a couple of years.
Complain about Detroit all you want (and I do) but they've come a long way.
The old Zeibart stuff actually (originally) was good. Then about the 80's it really hurt the vehicle since they were all coateed to resist rust so all it did was gunk stuff up. From the sounds of it, you only got the paint protection.
I myself would clay then use pro polish to make sure the paint is clear of the stuff. Pro polish is also a chemical cleaner so it will get it off.
Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It's good to be da King !!!
Thanx for the compliments, guys! It got the whole Ziebart treatment; rust proofing, Diamond Gloss, & fabric protection. (on leather?) The dealer spent $800 on the whole thing. I also recently bought a used '03 torch red Mach 1 that was a 1-owner car. The original owner had the DG put on it when it was new. I clay'd it off when I bought the car & gave it the usual PB's treatment; SSR1, Black Hole, EX, & Natty's Blue X5. I know it was garage kept, but the paint is in such excellent shape, & I can't help but wonder what part the DG had in that.

My Ford fleet? 2009 Mustang GT, 2008 Expedition Limited, 2006 Focus (work car), 2003 Mach 1, 1995 Thunderbird SC. Oldest son has a 2008 Focus, & my daughter & son-in-law have 04 Focus & 98 F-150 respectively. My youngest son drives the Honda in the pics. Apparently I failed somewhere in his upbringing!
I nominate you to be the official tester and your new Mustang as the official test bed. Why not let it go as it is and see what kind of durability/performance out of the Ziebart?
I agree about the D, I grew up around there and loved visiting. I believe that Detroit had a huge part in molding America,although there were a few greedy Unions that really gave the big 3 and the D a bad name.

Thanx! I also bought a red 03 Mach 1 back in April that got the DG treatment from the original owner when it was new. I clayed it off & gave it the PB's treatment. The paint looked incredible & I can't help but believe that the DG protected it pretty well.

I would say that any product used with care and regularly will help preserve a finish ... you just keep getting nicer cars ...
Thanx, Steve! I gotta stay out of Ford dealerships. I think I'm addicted. This Diamond Gloss is supposedly a lifetime treatment, with no need for wax. Ever. Yes, I'm a tad skeptical. I may let it ride for the rest of this summer. But sometime over the winter I'm fairly certain it'll come off & get detailed the old fashioned way.

Just because of my curiosity, I hope you report back on this.
Another question I had, was did you "feel" the surface to determine if whoever applied the Ziebart treatment clayed the surface as part of his prep?
I took some QD to it & it feels like it was clayed. I've been looking at the car ever since the dealer got it in almost 6 months ago. To the best of my knowledge it never sat outside, so the paint feels smooth.
Why not let it go as it is and see what kind of durability/performance out of the Ziebart?
