I just purchased this to hopefully get some surface scratches out of my factory Bmw X3 rims. Im guessing the person that had it before me used a stiff brush and you can guess the rest. What polish or cleaner would you suggest to use on then? Do I used the metal polish on my alloy rims? I have some cleaner wax, dacp, blue pp, nattys, ex-p,

Are they coated I'm thinking they are but if you don't know use a cotton towel and any metal polish and lightly rub the wheel.
If you don't see anything they are coated if the rag turns black then they are not coated.
Before you start working on them you first must be sure what you are working on.

what would you use if they are coated? What exactly do you mean coated? Clear Coat?

You want to use Pro-polish with that Ball, or any good chemical based polish

If the wheels are factory wheels they should be clear coated some after market are not.

Check them like I posted and if they are coated treat them like paint use a mild polish on them then wax them.

If you can see scratches, you'll want a good paint polish, light compound or scratch remover that's formulated to work by hand, since the PowerBall Mini is designed to work at reasonably low speeds -- you'll sling product everywhere otherwise.

I would use a plastic polish with the PowerBall Mini on a clear coated rim.

It's a plasticized urethane finish.

I just finished applying a paint cleaner to my truck using the large Mothers ball. Cut the application time in half. The only drawback is you have wait a couple days to let the ball fully dry before applying the next liquid, in my case wax. The water hides deep inside the sponge head. Also, I spent 80 bucks on a variable speed portable drill versus a 40 dollar two speed. It allows me to operate at any speed I wish. This choice of speed helps reduce the amount of spay that comes off the ball as it rotates.

Did you use a red PowerBall or the gold PowerBall 4Paint on your paint?

Also, the balls can be disassembled and then it's quick and easy to wash the foam element - it's also the same procedure for reversing the foam element so you get twice the life out of it. The instructions are on the inside of the package to disassemble.

Keep in mind the PowerBall 4Paint is an applicator - it's not for defect removal. It lays a thin, eve coat of wax down. There's no reason to run it at more than 300 or so RPM when applying a wax.

I used the big golden sponge on my paint. Washing is not a problem but drying time is as you can't switch immedaitely from polishing to waxing because of the moisture still in the sponge even after wringing. I use the smaller red ball for cleaning around the house. Both are major labor and time reducers.

Remember that the ball has 2 faces/crowns. After polishing, disassemble it, turn it around and put it back on - you have another clean face you can use with the wax.

Then, wash afterwards.

Problem solved.

Sorry, what I meant was turn the ball around after using the polish, and use the other face for the wax.

Wait to wash it until after you're done with polishing and waxing. Let it dry before reassembling and the drying time will be reduced.

So:

Polish
Turn ball element around
Wax
Disassemble PowerBall 4Paint and wash foam element
Let dry, then reassemble

i haven't had much sleep lately - guess I wasn't explaining my suggestion clearly.
