Surbuf pads? - 08-21-2009, 08:33 PM

Has anyone used these pads? They say they could be used on automotive paint. Wondering how these would perform on the flex, they are also for use with a DA polisher.

I was introduced to these pads by Chris Dasher (PorscheGuy997) at the MidwestGetTogether in Evansville In. this year. They were used to remove wetsanding marks (2500)with a DA and Meg's 105. Was surprised at the ease of removing the marks with the PC.

Just make sure these are not Mr. CleanMagic Erase pads re-formed. Those are like fast cut fine sand paper. I used an early version of these melamine pads to clean my countertops in the office kitchen when a rep came in touting a "new" pad that would clean with water. He did a Whole bunch of spots and it looked great-------------until it dried. There were spots where is sanded off the factory finish and left dull spots.

I would procede very carefully and perhaps practice on a rental car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just mu 2 cents

We used a black hood at the class and sanded a few different spots. Chris then had different people come up and try their hand at it. What surprised me was how easy the PC and 105 corrected the spots. Never thought little machine could do that well.
These pads have been around for quite some time I'm told and are well tested in the wood working field.
I have just posted this same info on MOL to invisible .He also is doubtful of these pads.I don't
have any personal stake in these pads nor am I a pro by any way but I have used them on various paint corrections and was extremely happy with the results. One side note here , I think wet sanding should only be used as a last resort when other operations fail to make the desired corrections. My use of these pads were on my vehicles and those of close friends who were warned of the wet sanding risk.A paint thickness gauge is #1 on my want list .

There's some very positive reviews on these on the TruthinDetailing forum. Two well respected detailers - Keven Brown and Bryan Burnworth use them.
