learning how to buff any help would be appreciated

I am looking to expand my skills in detailing have done some basic buffing but would like to go full out. I have a Hitachi buffer what would be the best set of pads I shoud invest in and also could anyone help with some how to steps and or pics or videos would help greatly thanks guys.

I've been using Lake Country pads and Meguiar's soft buff pads for a few years now because they each give me what the other can't sometimes, but I can highly suggest LC pads... definitely use the Hitachi on practice panels first...

As for what pads, I would suggest 5.5" pads, CCS or flat, as well as a few PFW 6.5 and 4" pads

Good question.

I have a 6" backing plate on mine. I find it works well with the larger pads but gives me the option of using a 6.5" pad if I want.

You may want to try starting with a wool polishing pad first just to get the hang of the machine. Foam pads will heat up faster and can tend to hop a little more than the wool.
