    Manufacturers Pad colors

I have seen a number of new people say that what color pad should they use with this product or that product. But then there is there question of who made the pad.

So I went digging around various web pages and thought that I would put a chart to hopefully answer a few questons, as well as what size backing plate

    Pad sizes/Backing plate size:
    4"ť/ 2 ľ" - 3 1/2"
    6"ť/ 5"ť
    7.5"/ 5"ť- 6"
    8.5"ť/7"ť-7 ˝"ť

    Backing plate thread size:
    PC: 5/16-24
    Rotary: 5/8-11
    Note:
Edge 2000 pads use a special adapter instead of a backing plate, but thread sizes still apply

If anyone thinks of any that should be added or notice any errors, let me know so it can be corrected

    Hope this helps

    That`s really helpful.
I use Malco, which is the same system as edge. I heard someone say they were the same, but good to see this list.

I don`t think the black Edge pad compares to any of those other pads , it`s a much more agressive pad , also only available in an 8" pad.

    Thanks Rollman,
I forgot to mention that not all types are available in all sizes.

Yeah the black Edge pad is for HEAVY cutting , quite a step above any one else`s yellow pad in agressiveness .

Even the black pad isn`t that heavy, but remarkably heavier than yellow. I tried burning through paint today and got through (on a practice fender), but if you really want to burn through paint, I recommend the wool pad and a 3000RPM rotary.

I remember a few years ago a member here was saying pads are a one use only product!! LOL . I`m sure he felt embarrased after but anyway as long as you take care of them they`ll last along time.

Also depends on how many times you use them of course. Soak them in alittle soapy water, aggitate and then rinse . Store them nicely and try not to hit sharp edges or stuff like bedliners and they`ll last at least 6 months .
I found that polishing and finishing pads will last longer than the cutting ones. Thats because I use higher speeds and more pressure..

There`s so many variables to consider . Are you a professional , weekend detailer or once a month detailer. A pro may get 15 -20 cars out of a pad if they aren`t to bad or hard on them .

You might want to postpone the lamination for a while. It probaly would be a good idea, but the list seems to still be in the deveopment/revision stage. You may have to laminate several copies to cover all the changes and additions.
Unless J gets tired of trying to keep up with all the pads that seem to be out there. Looks like this could be a never ending project.

I have a laminator available to me at work, so it will be no trouble to do updates as they are needed.
"J" has done a great job of covering all the pads I currently have in my arsenal.
    Thanks again "J"
