I usually will not comment on things like this, but have you not read the post earlier in the day about using a MAC?

I check in on Autopia from time to time, and that visit last week cost me $85 to have the virus removed !!! Its a shame, I was a huge fan of Autopia from 2001 up until a few years ago when DavidB was manning the ship. I am sure that this malicious act will cost the sites owner(s) with a substancial drop in membership.

No doubt! I cannot believe in todays day and age that even if a site got attacted, it could not be fixed within hours??? I am not exactally sure what type of business (income) gets generated over there but the way that site has been run lately it a shame. Seems like they will not spend the $ to do it right. A month or so ago, the server was so slow, the site was unusable. Just like over here, there are some excellent people and recources I will miss. For what its worth we run Vipre AV and I did visit the site before I knew it was infected from work and the PC was uneffected.

They were referring to this earlier post, I think:

I too used to be a big poster on Autopia, but my opinion of DavidB wasn't so high. If anything I was glad to see him finally leave, almost like it lifted the iron curtain over there.

Definately a big change since DavidB's exit. Even though there's been quite a bit of change, I think it's been a positive one. The owner's don't appear to want to be bothered in the "behind the iron curtain" mentality the site once fostered, but these current problems are starting to show how interested they really are in running the site. It has excellent potential if it remains truely non-biased, but time will tell if these hurdles will allow it to grow to its potential.

X2 - Per another topia member: How something like this can happen when there are a limited number of people who can upload (code) content to the site and that it is done through some secure method?

It is called hacking. Security can be breached. I just think the new owners of Autopia know little about hosting and all the issues. You just do not do it and walk away. It takes maintenance and constant watch for hacks but that is my theory based upon how slow the responded to the various issues since the upgrade, then host move, then patches, then this.
