I think this bill is the best thing that's happened in the fight against illegal immigration in a very long time. Many people say this is racist or that it unfairly targets Mexicans but in reality, all it does is enforce existing federal law, something the Feds have been given plenty of chances to do and failed to act.
Personally I think that the fact that these people can come into our country illegally, mooch off the system and hard-working people and get better benefits than those who pay their taxes is utterly ridiculous. And don't get me started on the anchor babies.
I can see Texas adopting a law like this in a heartbeat and New Mexico, maybe. California never will and it will continue to be overrun by illegals and hence, it will be bankrupt for the foreseeable future.

Even sometimes I, in a moment of what could only be described as pure sanity, question the rationality of this obsession.
I dunno - I don't know what's so hard to understand about illegal immigrant. If it's illegal, it's illegal. While I don't know what the bill entails, I do think Arizona is stepping up and trying to do a job the the Federal Government either chooses not to or isn't competent enough to handle. There are legal means to come into this country. It's also as much blame on US citizens who employ illegals. I think they should be penalized in some fashion as well.
Call me a racist, call me simple-minded, whatever. I'm not a political band-wagonner, but I do think it's about time we as a nation focus on securing our own borders instead of trying to fight everyone else's wars for them.
It's not fair to those of us who work hard to provide and support our families with the things we enjoy to have to pay for illegals and deadbeat citizens to get free services.
OCDinPDX JP you guys have it all wrong Obama says they are not Illegal aliens they are undocumented workers.
What is worse than the government not doing their job is they are now using our money to sue Arizona for trying to do the job our government will not do.
In principle, I do support where if someone works (but there is a lot of cash basis deals) that one must check if they are illegal. It is being done more now by the Feds than every before. Unless we adopt a guest worker program (get in line behind everyone else to be citizens), there is not going to real reform. It is impossible to completely seal the borders and many are here.
Americans want low cost labor to do the low skill jobs Enforcing the laws will cause prices to increase.

Not necessarily recently Chrysler and GM got concessions from UAW and they have much lower labor cost but you did not see a reduction in car prices just more profit.
I recently read article that a reporter wrote.
She spend months trying to document the cost of illegals and while she probably missed somethings it was 500 Billion dollars per year to tax payers.
Regardless of where you stand on this issue their will be nothing done to stop it under the current administration.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented worker' is like saying a bank robber made an 'unauthorized withdrawal'.

I might have to use that
It's one thing to come to this country and want to live and assimilate, but the majority of these "illegals" are just trying to get here and they don't/can't adapt.
I work with a guy who moved here from the DR and he was not allowed to speak spanish when he was kid so he would learn english and learn how live like an american. He has major issues with what is going on with the illegals now because he knows it's not easy to get here and stay.
