Question Rep Meter, Post Count, Join Date - 03-09-2010, 02:57 PM

Just curious what everyone would think. Leave things the way they are, get rid of one or more items, etc. Just thought I'd post this up since Dwayne mentioned something about it.

I'll try to make the answers self-explanatory.

EDIT: Not that anything needs changing on the site in the first place....

I like getting positive rep points! And with the "must spread some rep around" policy, you can't over-rep 1 person, at least not all at once.
Join date and post count are 2 things I like to look at sometimes, although it isn't something that I feel is mandatory.
If only there was an option for leaving things the same... Hmm...

I like it it adds some creditability to the person. Is this REALLY an issue on this site? You have to be kidding me!

No, it's not really an issue. Just posted the poll to see what others thought. Sort of branched out of my other thread asking what is wrong with the site.

If I had any "issue" with any forum, it has to be post count due to the fact that so many people post worthless crap to get the post count up, and then sort of use that as a badge of honor at the site. I could do without having a post count, but that's just my opinion. I've learned to ignore them for the most part. Just like in real life, lots of folks have much to say even if the quality of what they have to say is very negligible.

As far as post count........

Do posts that are in areas like off topic count towards post count?

I know that on a board I mod on that only real topics count toward post count.

Off Topic posts do not count towards overall post count.

So then it's easy to see if someone is post whroing to get tehir post count up. Even though with this site the only thing post count is good for is possible credibility, where other sites post counts can add to perks. So basically post count is a non-issue in this conversation (imho)

I have been on other sites that have done away with reputation and it has always caused a real stink when they do it.

I say keep it as is!

I think rep points and post counts are OK but, Just keep the post count. The rep power is not accurate in measuring skill level, or good advise imho. People here can see who gives out good info and who talks about lunch.

People can make there own decisions about who they listen to for good info. After all we now have a president that talks allot but has no good info.

I voted for number one.

I like the way it is as well. sometimes I find it interesting what others feel is a good post and what you thought it was when it was posted. I use the function to agree, appreciate, or compliment a good post. I have never used the other function for bad posting. If it was egregious enough I would post on the thread or go to PM's.
