It certainly looks like the posts you are referring to are leading up to the revelation of a "Miracle in a Bottle", (My words), product that was linked to earlier. The links were removed, but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the promotion.
As far as people being influenced by some of the information, I doubt that washing a vehicle with dish soap and a brush is going to come across as very good advice.

Household products for auto care don't interest me a great deal.
The one exception I can think of is/was the Woolite and water mix for cleaning leather. I used it at the 6:1 dilution ratio for several years with no problem, but I now use a dedicated leather cleaner. I also have noticed that the Woolite & water recommended dilution now seems to be 8:1.
