Expensive wax is it worth the $$$$

What is your opinion of the more expensive waxes that cost near 100 bucks or more are they worth it

Since we know that 90 percent is prep to you is it worth paying 5 or 10 times as much for high end wax

After trying products like Pinnacle Souveran and putting DG 105 and NXT 2.0 all on my car at the same time using a different product on each panel in my opinion the answer is NO they are not worth it.

To me they don't look better and they SURE don't last as long so I believe they are a waste of money but would like to know what others think and if you think they are worth it why ..

Since the Souveran is considered one of the waxes that makes Black really look great.
Since your Corvette is Black.
Since you felt the Souveran didn't really look any better than the DG105 or the NXT 2.0.

Not ever having used a truly expensive wax, I don't have an opinion based on experience, but my feeling is that they would not be worth it to me.
As far as the look of different waxes, I sometimes have a problem knowing just which wax I put on which vehicle.
With proper prep, I have been very satisfied with many LSPs. Probably at least a dozen ended up looking very good and I doubt that most people would know what I had used at any given time.

I'm with Charles as I have no hands on experience with the elite levels of car waxes...that said I do believe that they are more hype than anything..the human eye has limitation as to what it can see...If you did a side by side test of waxes costing $30 to $100 plus not many could see the difference..if at all...and would the difference be so great that it would justify the additional cost? I think not.

I too have to agree with everyone. I don't even try to compare waxes anymore. The differences are so minute. I'm happy with my Natty's and IW right now. The most expensive wax I have tried was the traveling Fuzion and yes it did look great but no real difference compared to NR.

Charles do you remember my post a year or so about taking my car to a car show with three different products on it.

Some would think it was nuts but I just wanted to see what happened.

I have won so many trophies that I didn't really care but since it was nearly impossible for me to tell and I knew where it was I wanted to see if anyone else could tell.
I told several spectators what I had done and ask them to tell me what panel was different and they could not tell me.

I did not tell the judges and I won an award.

With the right prep NEARLY any LSP will look good

If their is a difference it is so subtle that most people can't see it

I've used a good number of upper end waxes (upper end is a relative term). I would very much like to try Fuzion just to say I've done it but even with the knock out pricing going on it right now it's out of my price range. It's not that I can't afford to buy a tub I just can't get over the mental hurdle of buying it and then finding out I really like it. I've been very happy with the end results when using any of the higher dollar products, I've used. These products have been limited in price to sub $300 waxes. That said, I have my limits. I'll try anything, but I won't spend anymore than say Souveran when it's on sale. A two for one that I can split with someone or the likes. Do they look better than the sealants I use (I've tried/use most)? Well... that's pretty subjective but I would answer yes, at least for a few days.

I get something therapeutic out of a using a hard wax. Do hard waxes offer the benefits of today's better sealants? No. I can keep a good hard wax application looking plenty good for in the 6 week neighborhood or so using a product like AquaWax when doing subsequent washings. If I told you longer I would be lying. In my estimation a good sealant is good for twice that long using the same type of follow up. I've never let a vehicle go long enough to know if something actually lasts 6 months. I have my doubts because I see degradation after a couple of months. I've become perfectly happy with my rainbow of PoorBoys waxes, S100 and Souveran. Truthfully I don't look much further than that these days.

For me, I probably wouldn't consider it.
I can't justify the additional cost for a daily driver.

Me to...my truck was only 1000 bucks..a tin of 100 buck wax....would be 10% of the cost

I am not saying they are worth the money for a daily driver but for a show car i certainly think the answer is yes. I use the Souveran on our Mustang and I must say that with each additional coat the paint get deeper and wetter looking and I have yet to see another wax that does that for my other cars.

Now i certainly would not use it on a daily driver as the durability is almost nill and to me that would certainly be a waste of money. But for our Mustang I say Yes.

They are worth it if the user perceives a difference large enough to justify the price difference. For some the cost is not really an object, that's why the high end ($2000 +) waxes sell.

On some colors I can see a subtle difference in a higher priced wax such as Souveran or Victoria's Red (as high as I'm planning to spend), especially after it has cured for a day or two. But like you I'm only going to use that on my street rod, not on any daily drivers.

Just walking up to a car at a show most people aren't going to notice a difference unless you switched from one of the old "plastic wrap look" sealants to the warm glow of a carnauba. It's the prep of the paint that will, whether they realize it or not, catch their eye.

I'd like to say that Natty's Red will match up looks wise but unfortunately I can remember where I put that tub of wax . Hopefully I'll find it this winter and give it a shot in the spring.

Souveran might be a bit on the high side unless you catch it on sale, but that and Poorboy's Wheel Sealant are, IMO, the best smelling products I own.

I have Souveran, but only because of the BOGO deal that was going on at the time. I like the results, but IMO, it's not worth paying the extra money with the great products that I already have on hand. Like GH, funds aren't the issue. I just can't rationalize paying that much money for wax.

I'v tried 2 relatively upper end waxes, Highdef wax and Fusion , and lotsa other cheaper waxes , i did a adjacent panels on my sunset red car , and there is a difference and a big difference .... the Fuzion just made the car look dripping wet with awesome clarity. As fas as endurance i found with the harsh south african climate and being summer... the cheaper waxes lasted 2 weeks tops and the high end waxes between 4-5 weeks ...

For me endurance is not a biggie because i wax almost every wash .. i'm Crazy that way .. so i guess from my experience the High end waxes are better but does it justify the price ... mmmm i dunno ....

What I haven't read in this thread yet is what's high end and what is low or cheap?...meaning price only!

Cheap can be $5 and expensive can be $2000...if I looked at averages meaning that expensive would be $100 and low end would be $30 then I would be hard pressed to think the results would be that different....if you said low end was $5 and high end was $1000 then heck yea!


Expensive is subject to perception of the buyer...if they have the income then $1000 would not be a big deal.

I guess the point that I am making is what's expensive and what's considered low end or cheap?

If we did a side by side of waxes costing $80 to $100 for high end...and $5 to $15 for low end then we could see the difference...but because of the vast cost difference in waxes available on the market its real hard to compare with out some guide lines of cost
