What is your internet connection like for the majority of the time you are on DC? I'm on a T1 at work, but DSL at home. Since most of my time on DC is at home, I marked DSL. I'm just curious what the balance is on DC.

I'm on Cable, but the connection speed varies depending on how many folks are on-line in the neighborhood. Verizon just dropped fiber optic in our neighborhood -I can't wait! They have blazing connection speed and the price points are much better than Comcast (-one of the leading providers in the NE, and currently the only game in town).

Does anyone know one of the sites that you can test your connection speed for downloads and uploads?

In our little corner of Texas, we have crappy Sprint for phone and DSL and Cebridge for Cable. Both are weak at best. I have a cable modem and it works well enough. I would love to see fiber, but I doubt it will be in our little development.

I have cable and it clocks 381k up and 2378 down. Now the cable company is offering premium service that clocks 700k up for 69.99 a month. The basic is 44.95 a month. I will say that I could never go back to dial up. You can
check you speed at http://www.pcpitstop.com/default.asp

I had dialup forever and it pretty much sucked. In fact, most of OCDetails.com was built using a dialup connection. It sucked uploading new pages... Ebay shopping pretty much sucked on dialup too. Sniping is much easier with a fast connection. I had cable for awhile, but switched to DSL because it was cheaper. I really haven't missed or even noticed the speed difference. I'm sure it is there, but when you just surf message boards and hit ebay occasionally, you really don't need the speed of cable.

D i a l - u p

I live in an area that is listed as being just out of the service area for 3 different providers. (very rural) My work has a VERY strict filtering system for the internet so I am unable to do any "research" on the clock. I get by very slowly with the accelerator settings cranked.

I agree. I cannot get DSL because I live 8 miles from town. Something about being close to switching stations. I could get cable and that is all I could get with the speed.

We have T1 at work and it is FAST. Except for the filters and such they use. I hate the keyword filters. I was lookng for Dicks Sporting Goods once at work and the responce was a little off key.

Time Warner Cable - Download @ 4300 (Pit Stop)

NEVER Ever get Vonage's Modem + Wireless Modem into your Network. My Parents love being able to call anywhere in North America, but if you ask me the Hardware is by far the worst designed. Wireless + Direct Internet fades in and out, never get the consistent fast downloading speed.

Cable is fast! DSL is nice. Corporate + Univ Networks are insane depending on how they restrict you.

Happy Details
