Looking for 5 pro detailers that have detailing websites to promote - 03-07-2010, 05:41 PM

Don't worry. Not looking for money. I need a few of you guys listed in our new Detailer Directory so it doesn't look so empty before I start to promote it.

This is a free service I will be offering to professional detailers that are members of Detail City. If you have a website, please submit it using the Detailer Directory link above and then click Submit a Link. Please reply to this thread or send me a PM once it submitted. I will make sure everything is working and let you know once its approved.

Please see the Armstrong Detailing link in the directory as great template on how it should look.

Thanks!

I looked at your web site. I noticed that you offer a guarantee for sealant durability for 6 months. What products do you use and has anyone had a warranty claim - did not last? I know you say it applies to hand washing only.

Even more curious (to me at least) is what sort of factors are you using to gauge this? Interesting guarantee nonetheless.

If this needs to be in another thread, please split or move.

To be honest, I have had that guarantee listed since about 2004, and I haven't once had a person qualify for it. I have however had several people tell me that the sealant I use when they ask for the sealant upgrade (I used to use Meguiar's #20, now I use #21 2.0) that they still get good beading and can feel some slickness on the surface at 6 months out, even WITH using automatic washes. I use the same product on my personal vehicles to get through the winter months and have never had durability issues with it.

Mainly that's there to try to encourage people to use my hand washing services (ONR) instead of going through gas stations and other tunnel washes, but I've found that most of my customers simply feel the automatics are adequate, despite my attempts to educate them otherwise.

At the same time, though, it makes for an easy way to get my "regulars" bringing their vehicles in at least twice a year for detailing. Telling them that the protection only lasts 6 months gives them an incentive to mark down on their calendars that they need to schedule another appointment on a consistently rotating basis instead of just once a year or whenever it gets so funky they can't stand it any longer (in other words, it limits just how trashed the soccer-mom SUVs and vans get, making less work for me). For many that works out to be spring and fall -- right before the harsh UV of summer, and the pelting with road salt during the winter.

If I did have someone who was using my wash services (or sticking to quarter wash bays skipping the foaming brush, doing it in their own driveways, etc.) and I saw that the sealant didn't last 6 months for some reason, I'd have no problem busting out the PC and applying another coat. I've never had it happen, so if it did I wouldn't be losing much in time or materials cost.

Well kudos - that's one heck of a good idea. I can't say that I've seen any other pro detailers offer anything like that, and it must work for you (with return customers, etc).
