Shameless Plug or Smart Move? - 06-03-2009, 12:38 AM

I met up with three of my closest friends for dinner tonight and they all wanted to run their cars through the touchless car wash near the restaurant after the meal. While one of my buddies went through, I noticed a man struggling to push his wife's Santa Fe (same year as mine) out of the car wash area. I jogged over to help and several others joined in.

While they profusely thanked me for my help, the woman explained to me she had just bought the car and it had been sitting for a while. I could tell, it was covered in what looked like half a forest.

I seized the opportunity and handed them a flyer that I just so happened to have in my SF parked nearby. I gave them my number along with the flyer. She seemed genuinely interested in my services.

So...shameless plug or smart move?

smart move, When I see a nice shiney car with etched and fadad headlights I always hand them a card and tell them to call if they would like to have clear headlights again. This opens the door for some more good word of mouth.

Smart move if he/she calls. An even smarter move if she calls and then passes it off to a friend or friends.

A flyer accompanied by personal contact (conversation) is the best use of flyer "marketing". Hanging unsolicited on a door knob is just littering IMO.

I agree handing out flyers is best with a personal touch. If you are just distributing them around town to be displayed in businesses that is one thing. Always be ready with a business card, or some material. There is nothing worse than wanting someones business contact and not being able to get one. With that being said, you did a smart move.

ya there have been times when a couple months go by before I get a call from a card I handed out. I always have them with me and never "expect" a call because you will get frustrated.
