    New appreciation for dialup users

My cable internet has been on again, off again the past 24 hours and I have been using a backup dialup provider.
Wow, I had completely forgotten just how slow dialup was.
For all you members that have to use dialup regularly, I don`t think I would be much in to the internet thing is I had to depend on it regularly.
I do admire your patience. Something I don`t really have a lot of.

Agree. When I go to visit my parents, I usually get online to at least, check my email. 30 minutes to check my email......I was exhausted!!!!!!

Dialup sucks. I was on it for 5 years before I finally got DSL. I built most of OCDetails.com on dialup. It would take like an hour to update the site. lol Most sites just aren`t 56k friendly anymore anyway. I was glad that Strongbad only creates one email a week simply because it would take most of that week for the email to download. LOL

I feel for the dialup users out there. In most cases DSL is almost the same price, but the reason I had to go so long without it was because it wasn`t even offered in my area. Cable and DSL weren`t on the menu for the three years I really wished I had it. I was ok with dialup when all I did was hang out on message boards and do homework, but once I started doing design it started getting really inconvenient to have to wait so long for pages to load and software to download.

Dial up is 56K (kilobytes) internet. The speed of cable is like around 5 megabytes or so(maybe less, maybe more). 5 megabytes is 5120 kilobytes. 56 kilobytes is really tiny compared to that :

Yep. I went to visit my Mom and I didn`t even try to go online once I saw how long it took to load her "homepage." (Which was a factory direct commercial for her computer. I don`t know why my sister hadn`t changed it for her to at least a search page. Ugh. Oh well, all fixed now and I get brownie points over my sister! )

My parents live in a rural area that doesn`t even have cable running down the road. I have to connect via dial-up at 33k...really slow loading.

I got in early when TW first released Road Runner service back in Rochester and haven`t looked back.
