4* UPP at 6+ months on a daily driver - 12-24-2004, 11:50 PM

I detailed my brother's Grand Prix GTP back on June 6. It recieved Clay, SFP, UPP Cleaner, and 1 coat of UPP.

http://autopia.org/forums/showthread...threadid=38964

He and I are home from college for the holidays and all vehicles were a mess this morning. He had a late night and I was up early to wash, so I figured, I'm in the spirit, I'll wash his for him.

Now later on, I spoke to him about his maintenance program for his car, or lack thereof. Throughout the summer (June 6 - August 20) he washed his car with NXT and 2 chenille mitts every 5-7 days. Once he got to college, it dropped off dramatically. He said he probably washed the car under 5 times from the end of August until now. The last wash being a drive-through back in mid-October. The car lives outdoors in Providence, RI and it did all summer here on Long Island.

With this being said, I washed it today using Poorboy's Super Slick and Suds Wash. This wash cleaned very effectively...see my review in this same forum. The surface lacked any slickness, but cleaned up rather easily. Once dried, I dressed the tires with Wolfgang's Tire Gel, stood back, and evaluated.

While it lacks the initial very wet appearance and glow of UPP, I still saw a lot of it today. It definately looked wet, reflected well, and had a decent glow to it. Also, after my final rinse of the wash procedure, it beaded up pretty well. Nothing crazy, but there was definately still some surface tension there...no pooling.

So hey, I am impressed with the durability. In 10 days, it will be 7 months on a single coat of UPP. It lasted through a pretty hot summer, rather rainy fall, and 2 snow storms thus far.

Pretty impressive. UPP is some great stuff huh?

I have to say that UPP is holding up fantastically on my daily driver too despite it being outside 24/7 and parked under trees a good bit of that time. (Can't birds poop somewhere else? Can't sap fall somewhere else?)

Dem's mighty nice photos GSRstilez! Do you still use PB Super Slick and Suds when you wash it on a regular basis?

Wow. That is impressive. With that said above, no maintenance done except washing it? Whew, that is great!

Looks great, but did anyone expect any thing other than that.

Questions:
Whose hood?
Whose grille inserts?
What pulley, airbox, etc.?

Not too far of the subject, I hope.

Charles

ps.
Been using the UPP since June of 2002. It was $19.95 for 16 oz. then and was well worth it to me. Each newer version has been improved and it has definitely become my LSP of choice.

dalmore: Yes, yes it is. This definatley boosts it up a notch in my book.

madman: Nope, if you check in the review section, I just did a SS&S Review.

CharlesW: Hood, shoot i should know this, but I don't. Speed Grille's (that's the company). He has a pulley, I know he does...I think it's the really versatile one that doesnt mess too much with the way the alternator works. CAI functional ram air with the hood . It's a quick car and has that sexy pig squealing supercharger whine.

Thank you charles. he makes a very good point. I really like the NXT wash. On sale you can get it for $4 at Wally world or KMart so it can be even cheaper. I am sticking with that one too
