Fine grade OPTI-ERASER reveiw by detailchick

My first product review .Miracles do happen!

Here is the fine grade Opti-eraser out of the package unaltered(picture below). I`ve only used it on 2 vehicles. After the first use I decided it felt too grabby for my liking even though it did not marr up my soft Toyota paint I wasn`t happy with the grabby feeling (as if it had a suction cup attached to it feeling) .....

I wasn`t giving up yet and tried it out on my customers Toyota that I detail every 6 months. It had the same grabby feeling that really slowed my rhythm down .I decided right away to take a razor blade and slice it down the middle and see if that reduced the grabbiness.Sure enough it did and was much easier to do the rest of the vehicle! Here`s a picture of the now 2 erasers cut down the middle.......

I played around with how I was holding the eraser to see if there was a way to reduce the grabbiness even more and came up with holding it like so (picture below),with a slight curve to it .(I was actually holding it flater then the picture shows as it was hard to show you without a flat surface against it.) It worked even better and had a much more gliding feeling to it!...Happy now!

I got a little holder for it that wraps around my buckets because on the package it advises you not to soak the eraser. This holder allows it to drain and protects it a bit from the elements....

The surface contaminants/fallout on this car was about average for a car sitting outside for 6 months and I did have to go over the horizontal surfaces many times to get it smooth and a few areas just wasn`t getting it smooth enough so I used my magna sponge instead to speed things up.The magna sponge is much more effective than the fine Opti- eraser in removing contaminants but then it does also marr soft paint so its nice to have this option of a fine grade eraser. I would say the fine grade Opti- eraser is comparable to Mothers claybar as far as its ability to remove contaminants. That opinion could change with time as I use it on more cars.

    Pros.Does not marr soft paint(so far )
Works ok in removing light contaminants
The price is great considering you get a 2 sides equivalent to 2 erasers for the price of 1.

Cons. It feels grabby and does not glide smoothly ( cutting it helped considerably)
It does not handle anything more then light contaminants/fallout.

Overall its a good product for me after altering/cutting it.

Please, if you have this eraser and are happy with it I would not advise cutting it.We are all different with different size hands and I cannot say you will have the same positive experience after cutting it. If you already have it and are unhappy with it give cutting it a try!

Thanks for this review dc. I love the cheap holder idea for it and I think cutting it in half will also work for me.
