Product Review: Poorboy`s Super Slick & Suds Car Wash

Poorboy`s Super Slick and Suds Product Review

Poorboy`s Super Slick and Suds promise to deliver a great, easy-to-use car wash, that won`t strip wax or sealant, at a great price.

    Bottle & Packaging.

Super Slick & Suds comes in a larger 32 oz. bottle with the standard simple Poorboy`s label and directions. Mix 1 ounce for 2 gallons of water. Autopia, of course, recommends using the two-bucket method, with Grit-Guard inserts, and at least 4 gallons of water.

    Getting started.

Poorboy`s Super Slick & Suds has a pleasant scent. The consistency is moderate, not water running yet not syrup, but a pleasing medium.

I used a measuring cup to measure out exactly 2 ounces of Super Slick and Suds.

I always like to see who quickly the soap will mix when blasted with water.

A three second stream of water filled the reminder of the bucket with a nice, forthy foam.

I used my new favorite wash mitt, the ultra-soft, ultra-plush Super Plush Microfiber Chenille Wash Mitt.

After rinsing the Mazda off to remove any loose soiling I went to work. My first feeling is that Super Slick & Suds provided good lubricity on the paint and a moderate amount of suds.

However the staying power of the suds was considerable. They clung to the paint and stayed active in the wash bucket a particularly long time. (In fact there was still suds visible in the wash bucket an hour after finishing the wash!!!)

Cleaning power was quite good, although not super strong. Regular dirt, grime, and road pitch was easily removed. Although strong benefit to Poorboy`s Super Slick & Suds was how easily (and completely) the Micro-Chenille wash mitt rinsed clean with just a quick dunk in the was bucket. It was very free rinsing.

After washing a considerable section (about 1/6th the vehicle) I rinsed.

To my surprise, any previous water beading was completely absent. The water laid flat on the surface. This did have the benefit of preventing water spots.

Towel drying the paint with a super soft Cobra Guzzler revealed a paint surface that was slightly tacky. I have seen this with other soaps (almost like a soap residue) from over dilution although I precisely measured the amount of Super Slick & Suds in the wash bucket.

    Pros:
    Nice smelling
Easy to mix (creates a high level of suds with just a short blast of water)
Incredible staying power (suds stay active on the paint and in the bucket).
Nice cleaning power (not quite strong enough to remove tar, but dirt and grime present no challenge)
Rinses clean from the wash mitt

    Cons:
    Reduces water beading considerably
Not quite as slick or as sudsy as premium soaps

    Conclusion:
A very nice soap for those who desire a clean car with out any of the fuss and demand an excellent value. The way the wash mitt rinses completely clean with minimal effort should really help preventing swirl marks. Another solid product from Poorboy`s.

    Thanks for the review Todd.

As for reducing beading, is this a permanent reduction in beading or just not just after the wash? Is it leaving something behind?

    As always Todd; outstanding review!!

I don`t have a lot of experience with PoorBoy`s World products but I did but some Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss and I`m thoroughly impressed with its cleaning ability and suds staying power...

I`m amazed how concentrated it is and a cap full per 5 gallons of water has to make it the most economical wash available anywhere!

Todd. What was the timeframe since you last application of lsp and what was it. I have used poor boys SSS as my go to shampoo for my daily drivers and they have BFWD and Permanon and the SSS does not knock out the beading after the rinse. Forgive me oh detailing master but, perhaps the shoemaker has holes in his shoes (or lsp)?

Not sure, although in my experience most degradation is not because of LSP weakening as it is "leaving something behind". Whether it is a design function of the car wash or a soap `film/scum`. After washing I clayed/polished with SSR2, glazed with White Diamond, sealed with EX-P, and topped with Natty`s Red. (I will have a quick detail/semi review soon), so I cannot tell if the water beading would have returned.

BF WD Conditioning Shampoo will actually flatten water beading to help reduce water spotting, but the original (or more intense) water beading will return shortly.

LSP was 3 weeks old or so. Sometimes its factors like water quality, the particular LSP, etc. That`s why reviews (and different opinions) are so valuable.

With CG Maxi Suds II are you get a return of water beading later?

Was it a Nuba? 3 weeks in the NY scorching heat and P21s 100% is done.
