Mini-Review: Prima Hydro Wax As You Dry Spray

Mini-Review: Prima Hydro Wax As You Dry Spray

    Introduction:

I decide to give you guys a short break from reviews of my beloved Chemical Guys products. I titled it a Mini-Review because I`ve used Hydro exactly once (this morning) but didn`t really see any reviews on ACC. I`m likely not using it on an appropriate vehicle and don`t necessarily care that I will probably have no durability. I hope this will spark a discussion from some of the members with more experience with the product.

A couple of months ago, I started using drying aides with my rinseless washes and really liked the results I was getting. Hunting around on ACC site, this looked like a great candidate, especially since I`ve never used a Prima product before.

I said I`m not using it on an ideal vehicle. My DD was Opti-Coated a month ago and ONRed + OCW eariler this week after a rain. I know that any product used on top will likely have no/limited durability. My application was as a drying aide.

Thanks to Corey again for providing the format.

    Product Claims:

    From ACC website -

"Prima Hydro is a remarkably durable wax-as-you-dry spray. The polymer structure means your vehicle`s finish is left glossy, slick and well-protected. Hydro is so high in polymer that it actually cures over time. 24 hours later you`ll have an even slicker and glossier finish! You`ll be amazed at how well it repels dust too.

To use, simply wash your car normally then rinse. While the car is still wet, spritz Hydro on the surface. Dry normally with any fabric drying towel (ie, microfiber waffle weave). That`s it! This versatile product can also be used as a quick detailer on a dry surface with a plush microfiber cloth. It`s so simple. Why wax when you can Hydro?"

    Prima Hydro Spray Wax

    Details:

1.- Packaging: Plastic Bottle and Trigger Sprayer (I bought the 32oz so mine has a CG sprayer)
    2.- Directions: Clearly labeled
3.- Viscosity: About the same as water
    4.- Color: Melon
5.- Scent: I think melon but could be influenced by the color
    6.- Price at time of review: 16oz = $ 14.99
    7.- Manufacturer: Prima
    9.- Made in: USA

    Product

    Other Products Used:

    CG Honeydew Snow Foam
    Bone
2 Buckets with 4 Grit Guards
    Power Washer
    Foam Cannon
    Short nap MF
    MetroVac Sidekick

    Preparation:

It was Sunday morning, 8AM, sunny and 40F. I rolled out the pressure washer & foam cannon and let my Sonata have it with a cloud of CG HDSF. (I chose CG HDSF because I thought the scent would complement the Prima Hydro.) After a brief dwell, I did a traditional 2x4 bucket wash (you can never be too safe - and this was on a clean car!), rinsed and pulled the car into the garage.

    Application:

Sprayed on hood, made a preliminary wipe, spreading the Hydro around, with one MF and did the final drying with a second MF.

Note - I haven`t done many traditional drying of cars since I got my MetroVac Sidekick (and later the 8hp Master Blaster). Made me remember why I got the MetroVacs.

    Observations:

Wonderful smell. Leaves a glossy, slick finish.

Here are pics of the results. How much was due to the Hydro? No, idea. But I thought they were good photos.

Does it meet its claims, yes.

    Comparisons:

I`ve used a number of products as drying aides. Really like Optimum Car Wax, CG P40 detailer and Einmann Fabrik Clear Pearl II (no longer available). Hydro is right up there with them all.

    Pros:

    1.- Easy to apply
2.- MF glides over paint very easily
    3.- Fantastic smell
4.- Leaves a slick, glossy finish on paint
    5.- No streaking.

    ???:
1.- Durability. Don`t care in my application and will never know on my car
2.- Can you use it as a drying aide with rinseless washes?

    Cons:

1.- Could be less expensive. But then, so could most products.

    Final Observations and Summary:

Like I said in the Intro, this is really intended to start the conversation regarding this product. I like it but would only use on my personal vehicles until I find wealthier clientele.

So, members with more experience with this product, take it away.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

I credit Corey with the format in the Intro of each review. If someone else deserves credit for the format, let me know and I`ll be happy to include that as well.

I see that now, my mistake buddy. I wasn`t trying to start anything, just Corey is one of my buddies and I like his work to go noticed. I know that their are some people that take it without notice. Sorry for any problems. Didn`t mean for it to seem that way. No hard feelings? And like I said in my first post. Very informative reviews from you lately. These reviews are highly appreciated by everyone else, even though sometimes they go unrecognized.

    I love your reviews!

    When Prima products became available I ordered several;

    • Prima Hydro-Seal
    • Prima Banana Gloss
    • Prima Epic Synthetic Wax
    • Prima Nero Protectant

Prima products perform spectacularly. They`re easy to use and really leave the finish looking like glass....

I`m looking forward to trying this product...

I opened the page and read everything and then posted. In that time there was like 6 posts... I guess I`m just a little slow.

No hijack just a slight detour.....

Epic`s a nice product to work with. It lays down gorgeously with my Porter Cable 7424 polisher and buffs to a beautiful shine...

I let this sit for about 30 minutes before I buff it off but one thing I noticed was the longer it sat after buffing the slipperier the surface became. Even though it`s labeled as a synthetic wax I could classify it as a very nice sealant...
