Product Review: Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel

Product Review: Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel

    Manufacturers Description:
Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel makes tires shine with an advanced polymer formula with UV blockers and ozone repellants. The penetrating tire protectant bonds to the rubber for long-lasting protection. Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel is the finishing touch on a flawlessly detailed vehicle! Proper application is important to maximize the effectiveness of this product. The viscosity of Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel allows the product to be applied neatly and evenly, sit and penetrate the tire walls, and prevents messy sling-off. For best results, carefully apply one thin, even layer, swiped over the surface. This gives a handsome, well-dressed gloss that compliments most vehicles. If you prefer a heavier, glossier shine, wait ten minutes and reapply. For less shine, follow the initial application by immediately wiping tire with a clean cloth. Wipe off excess tire gel around raised letters and between the wheels` edges and tires where the gel can puddle. Allow the gel to cure for at least 30 minutes before driving.

    Product Observations:
    1. Manufacturer: PBMA
    2. Made in: U.S.A.
    3. Packaging: Black Flip Top Bottle
    3. Color: Clear
    4. Scent: Coconut Sun Tan Lotion
    5. Consistency: Thin Gel
    9. Price: $24.99 – 16oz

    Manufacturers Application Directions:

Work out of direct sunlight. Clean tires first with Wolfgang Tire & Wheel Cleaner and allow them to dry.
    1. Squeeze a thin bead of Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel across your foam applicator or tire swipe. Less is more!
    2. Apply a thin coat across the surface of your tire—just enough to moisten the surface is all you need. It will absorb and no sling-off will occur.
    3. Control the level of shine according to your preference. One light application of Black Diamond gives the optimal amount of shine for a well-dressed look that suits most cars. For less gloss, follow application of gel by wiping down with a clean dry towel. For a higher level of sheen, wait ten minutes then apply another coat. Repeat until satisfactory results are achieved.
    4. It’s best to allow at least 30 minutes for the gel to cure. You will enjoy a beautiful finish on your tires that lasts for weeks.

    Application Photos:

This is how dirty the wheels on my wife’s car after 1 week.

Tires were cleaned with a Dawn and APC mixture. This is the tire bare and prepped for the test.

    50/50 with both Gels applied:

Black Magic Titanium Tire Wet Gel on entire Wheel:

    Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel

    Short Hand For Test:
    A. BM TTWG = Black Magic Titanium Tire Wet Gel
    B. WG BDTG = Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel

    Application Notes:
    - I felt like on the 50/50 comparison test I feel like used more product than the Black Magic Titanium Tire Wet Gel that I have currently been using.
    - The WG BDTG is a thinner gel than the BM TTWG. This allowed it to be worked in to the tire sidewall better but also soaked into the applicator more.
    - When I applied each to a full tire I feel like I used about the same amount.
    - When first applied the WG BDTG was a slightly more matte finish.
    - After an hour I cam back and lightly wiped down the tires to remove any excess dressing. The WG BDTG actually had a little bit more product come off onto the towel.
    - The WG BDTG dried to the touch after an hour. The BM TTWG was still slightly greasy.
    - After 2 days I actually found it hard to tell the difference between the 2 products.

    Thoughts / Questions / Conclusion:
    - Because WG BDTG is water based can you mix it 50/50 with water into a spray bottle to double the amount of product?
    - Would diluting WG BDTG affect its durability?
    - WG BDTG was very easy to apply and left a nice matte finish.
    - WG BDTG is $24.99 for 16oz where as BM TTWG is $7.99 for 16oz.
    - Would I buy this again? At this time my answer is no. For the price difference I can pick up 48oz of and OTC tire gel locally.
    - Most of the people I detail cars for consider shiny as detailed. And because of the price the OTC stuff I currently use works well.
    - After 2 days of having the products on the tires with a 50/50 I can hardly tell a difference between them. They both look the same. But the WG BDTG side is dry and soft while the BM TTWG is still a little greasy. Point WG.

Re: Product Review: Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel

Very thorough review. Greasy usually equals dust and dirt attraction so I`d be interested how cleaning goes next time around.
