Way to go 3M! Wait....

Just kidding.

I tend to think it has a lot more to do with the detailer and the process, but that's just me. I've done some great looking cars in nothing more than over-the-counter products and I'd wager no one on this forum or another could have picked it out.

I wonder how the system works.

I assume Meguiar's provides free products and support for contestants.

You know what they say about assume.

After these people spend 2 million dollars building a car to win this show do you assume that they would not use what they thought was best because they can save 20 dollars on wax.

In all honesty, I would imagine they would hire someone to detail their vehicles.

I would imagine almost everyone in the world recognizes Meguiar's as a top notch product. It's probably only in our very, very small online detailing world forum that we think of them as OTC/second class/etc. For some reason there is this aura that the more a product costs or the harder it is to get it that it's that much better, when in reality that's not the case.

I would tend to agree, people in this type of community seem to go toward the "boutique" products simply because they think of them as a status symbol. Higher prices may mean you get some exclusivity out of the deal, but in the end everyone is looking for the same end result of a flawless finish.

To me, it doesn't matter how I get to the end result or what I use to get there, as long as I end up with the finish I want in the easiest, least expensive way while removing as little film build as possible in the process.

I have used NXT on my show car and I won with it also.

The NXT cost more than the DG-105 NXT has a little darker look and not as much gloss.
The DG 105 has more gloss and is much more durable.
Another sealant that never is mentioned here that I though was pretty good is Mothers FX syn-wax this stuff is more durable than NXT it looks very near the same and it is easy on and off.

After wasting a lot of money buying everything I saw I have pretty much settled in on a few of the less expensive products that do just as good or in some cases better than the more expensive products.

Some believe a expensive sealant must be better but after several years of testing I did not find that to be true.

How you do the process is more important than how much you pay for your LSP.

The press release talks like "oh we discovered they used Meguiars". In fact, it is no secret since they have touted this in the past and I sure they what they can to try to encourage the use. If not, then they have a lousy marketing department which I seriously doubt. There is always a backstory even for good products like Meguiars.

“Best in Class” winners had been detailed inside and out with Meguiar's products. For the last twelve years, 85 percent (255 out of the 300) of vehicles that were judged “Best in Class,” have used Meguiar’s car care products.

All I know is that I never quite got the level of shine from Meg's/Mother's that I get from Poorboy's.

I have been using Meg's Ultimate Compound on a lot of the cars that I've done lately and it is a nice product and provides good gloss for those who don't know the difference between a swirl and a squirl. (MP quote) I am sure that I could finish that down with Meg's Deep Crystal Polish and have a gloss as glossy as with any other product line.
