i figured i'd test out a few products that had been mentioned by some members. Such as the danase window mf's.. stopped by their website, and says its set to be shut down feb 28. I hope I'm not bending any rules by posting this, if so I apologize sincerely.. Just thought the prices were pretty decent, so it may be a good time to stock up on some things if you need them. I put in an order with pb and ag yesterday, but i'm still gonna pick up some stuff from danase since its so cheap. Might be worth it in the long run..

anyone hear or experience anything good about any of their other products? waxes, qds ect.. Im just picking up the brands I know right now, like most of their mf's and stoner products.. more shine for $2.95 is a deal IMO

Are you going by actual shipping costs, or the shipping cost estimator? I believe he said over at another site that the estimated calculator was incorrect.

Which brings up one of my soap boxes - Just my .02, but "shipping" prices keeps me from buying in small quantities online, thus keeping me from trying new things at times and persuades me to buy OTC/local. Seriously, $6 bucks to ship a bottle of whatever that's already $10+ bucks.... I'm all about supporting the vendors and getting (what I sometimes believe to be) superior product, but dang. I don't want to feel gouged by shipping. Shipping ought to be just that - shipping. Handling, packaging, etc should be (and sometimes looks like it is when the cost of product is taken into consideration) built into the price of the product. Don't nickel and dime me to death for pete's sake. Buying off Ebay is the world's worst too - when you pay 8.99 for shipping, and it gets to you in an envelope and the USPS sticker says 2.79.

This is an old trick before ebay. If you used to order cameras from the NY camera firms, the price was much higher after a handling, shipping fee, etc They have gotten more honest as of late.

The USPS flat rate is a good deal if you can fit in the box especially for small stuff ($4.95).

Now, I wonder if the UPS labels says $8.79 if it really costs them. Many shippers have contracts so they get discounts (paying less for next day). My employer got discounts on shipping (less than standard rates) for overnight, etc and we change preferred shippers occassionally. They may get rebates at year end if they meet shipping totals.

Places thst use Fed Ex Ground seem to have the best shipping rates and Fed Ex delivers on Saturday.

I too was like you with shipping at one point, but have decided that its all part of the cost to get the product. That said if I see something for 10 bucks with 6 bucks for shipping then its 16 bucks, if that seems like a good deal at 16 bucks then I buy. Doing business online I've come to realize that shipping will always be part of the price and I have to live with that.

I will say that today its MUCH better than it was 10 years ago, shipping companies have standard pricing, that has helped a lot providing that the vendor is passing that along. You should also be ordering in larger quantities to save on shipping, that's what I've done.

I know I ship some stuff, and it never costs in the $8.00+ range. It's sort of ridiculous to me that shipping an item, say a bottle of polish, a place will charge you $8+. Generally half the cost of the bottle of polish. Really?

It's just aggravating to want to get a bottle of something, you see it's already $15+, then by the time you're checking out it's past $20. For a single bottle of something. At those kind of prices in today's world, I'll just have to pick up a bottle of 3M or Meg's at Wally World for $6-8 and call it a day. It's hard for me to justify laying out more than double for something I can get on a grocery trip that will pretty much perform the same. Maybe I should use more product so that when I buy stuff it's a bigger order....

So you're okay with paying 60% of the product price to have it shipped?

Granted, if I want something bad enough I suppose I would be too. Sales tax is gonna get me if I buy it here (< 10%), and the more you buy the less percentage of the total bill is shipping. My main "gripe" is buying a single item like a polish. Shouldn't cost more than a couple of bucks to have it put it USPS and sent to you. I'll never be a big bulk buyer, and I'm the type that will buy one product at a time as I see an upcoming need for it.

I just get a feeling that sometimes folks use "shipping" costs as a tool to pad the bottom line.

If its what I want and not available OTC, yes!


The same could apply, if you brought something OTC and then saw it online for half the cost with no shipping

What I was pointing out is you have to stop looking a the shipping costs as the decision point. I look at the overall price of the product delivered to my home, if that's palatable then I buy. Like yourself if I want something and the shipping seems crazy high for the product then I don't, but I've learned to understand that's part of doing biz online, like it or not

There is no doubt in my mind this is true with some, that's another reason that I do biz with people that I know and trust. Steve is one of those, I never ask what the cost is for shipping as I know he's to be trusted. Others I always ask or check and then make up my mind.

I ordered some PC pad from AG, 3 of them where not the right size, so I sent them back and they returned the new ones no charge. Again the price of doing biz online

I bought 2 bottles of 105 a bottle of 601 and 1 gallon of AW and a gallon of FC&S direct from Duragloss.
Shipping and handling was 5 bucks

Quality product at a good price with good shipping cost to boot

The more you buy the more they make but the more you buy the more most places soak you for shipping.

Like JP I'm tired of being charged outrageous shipping fees and have started looking for a better deal.

Disclaimer: I know this may or may not be a touchy subject with vendors. However, I will still buy products from them even if I feel that shipping may be a touch high at times.

Just a little comparison to explain my theory/thoughts on this.

Is Klasse AIO really 3 times better (cost perspective) than Meguiar's ColorX? I personally don't think so. Furthermore, does it (or should it) really cost Joe six pack eight bucks to have it shipped? One 17 ounce bottle of polish/AIO? I am sure that the eight bucks I pay for shipping goes into the theoretical pot and helps pay for the shipping for everyone, but for the guy that buys a few bottles of product every year that's a lot to pay to have a single bottle of something shipped.

Even at the premium price you pay for Klasse AIO, shipping is still 32% of the advertised price of the product. That's in the "ouch territory" for me.

HP, that's a good point that we forget when looking for bargains. My wife will drive all over town to three or four stores to buy just the items they have on sale that we need, where as if she costs averaged the entire lot with just one store we would be money ahead

That should be considered when the vendor is setting a price point for the product. Don't try and recoup overhead by adding an extra fee to the product. you build that into the price of the good.

I've seen that point brought up before regarding shipping costs, and haven't really thought about it until now. But really, that is a moot point. About as moot as it can get. For one, I am already paying insurance as mandated by state law, I have to buy gas, and generally I am not going to make a special trip to the store to buy a bottle of ColorX. I'll generally get it when I am getting groceries - another one of those things that I have to do to survive. It might take me an extra 30 seconds to go down the automotive aisle at WM to pick it up. If anyone is seriously factoring in those as costs when it comes to buying polish, they need to be an accountant like me.
