3M Perfect-It 3000 Extra Cut Rubbing Compound VS M105... - 01-12-2010, 12:11 AM

Hi everyone,
I've been using the M105 for a while now and I have to say it's a love hate relationship... On some occasions the M105 is a miracle product on other times its a nightmare! Wanted to see if there was anyone that has switched to 3M Perfect-It 3000 Extra Cut Rubbing Compound and has anything to report whether good or bad. I'm currently mixing the M105 with OHC to combat the work time and dusting issues. Thanks for any input!

M105 worked with rotary and Meguiars Burgundy cutting pad

3M Perfect III Machine Polish with rotary and UK version Yellow pad

3M Perfect III Ultra Fina Polish with rotary and UK version Blue pad

RMG with PC and Black LC pad

Soverane Liquid was with PC and Blue LC pad

Under what circumstances are you having trouble with M105?

IMO, it's in a class of its own. There are many compounds out there that can cut and may be easier to work with, but I can't think of any single one that does it in less time than M105 or leaves a better finish.

With some more details we can probably help you resolve the situation and make your relationship with M105 that of true love.

What exactly is your definition of "fillers"? Every polish needs to contain some type of lubricant to cushion abrasive action. I understand you want a general answer, but there really is no general answer - your question is quite specific yet vague at the same time. You might want to contact 3M directly - even I am curious to hear what their answer may be.

My question is that I have read and can't seem to find where now. That a lot of the 3M polishes contain fillers that allow you to fill in minor swirls rather than really remove or correct them. I know that most all polishes have some but are worse than others.

Its a question that came up on another forum is the reason for asking

I am honestly not sure - since there are so many polishes in 3M's line up, my experience with them is limited. I stick mainly with M105/205, and Menzerna or Wolfgang polishes, but that's just me personally. I do love their Ultrafine polish and know that it does not contain fillers that hide defects. On the other hand, one would assume that Imperial Hand Glaze WOULD hide defects. Were there any specific products you wanted to inquire about, or do you want to know exactly which ones in their entire lineup contain fillers?

Like I said, you might be best off contacting 3M directly. Otherwise, if there's a couple specific products you're inquiring about, I'm sure I can help you out. But I can't go testing their entire line up.
