Foam gun soap - 05-11-2009, 07:58 AM

What are the best soaps for foam guns? At the cost of good soap do you run the $0.50 - $1.50 per oz soap through your gun or are there other cheaper products that will also do the job.

I know I use lots of soap washing larger vehicles. I find the high quality soaps are great for the 2 bucket method, but its expensive to run them through a gun.I also find the high end soaps are not foam gun friendly. What do you high volume guys use with good results through your foam guns.

I use Meg's Gold Class Car Wash. Doesn't foam as well as the shampoos but it works for me and my no bucket method.

So am I to beleave the pre soak is ok to do with lesser quality or lesser cost soap. Not to sound cheep but its easier for me and my pocket to get the soap a wally world. Anyone here use the retail store soap? what kind are you having the best results with to date?

I do use the 2 bucket method every time now with PB SS@W AND THE PRESOAK FOR ADDED cleaning.

I have not stepped up to poorboys soaps, so lucky for me i cant compare them. That would mean spending even more money on wash and wax supplies. I have been using meq. gold class and the meq. in the red looking bottle. I have been happy and i can pick up at lowes or wallyworld. I feel if im going to do a wash and wax i dont need high end soaps.Once i have waxed i could see using some bettter soap during the maintance process.

Another vote for the dynamic duo above . . . but I have used Meg's Gold Class & while it was not the equal of the above mentioned two shampoos, for an OTC produtct, it was pretty good.

Don't it always seem to go, you don't know what you've got til it's gone?

Are soap guns really worth it? I mean you still have to go over the entire vehicle with a mitt. So is going in the bucket for more soap that bad, if you practice two buckets and check your mitt after rinsing? Soap guns do look like fun though.

I like it when the car is really loaded with grime/dirt, as sorta a started step.

It helps soften and rinse some of teh crud away.

Ron are you a soap waster too?

I see the idea of having lots of suds, so there is more lubrication, more grime loosening, and less scratching.I just blast the car with the hose from top to bottom. if anything is really dirty I'll use my apc diluted, or tarminator for bad stuff before hand.

What type of pressure do the soap guns have?
I would be happy if i could get a regular hose to be a lil' more powerful?
I have a 2400 psi pressure washer but its to big for me to lug around.

Re: Foam gun soap - 07-01-2009, 11:19 AM

I've used Gold Class, Crystal, RainX, Blue Coral, and $1.99 a gallon car wash soap through the foam gun and they've all foamed up nicely.
I've never gotten shaving cream foam out of those, but I dilute them in the bottle to get a foam that runs a bit. All that's needed is to emulsify the dirt enabling it to be wiped or run off. Plus I'm too cheap to use a higher dilution, or a more expensive car wash soap in the foam gun.
I'll rinse the car first, then foam it, let it sit a bit, then shoot more foam under a wash mitt and gently rub, rinsing the mitt in a clean rinse bucket after each swipe.
