My shop being featured on a news show

On or about Oct 13th, a news show on WFSB Channel 3 called Better Connecticut will be featuring my shop in a 3 - 5 minute spot. They will be coming out to my shop to shoot in a few weeks. They are going to let me talk about pretty much anything I want. So I`m looking for some input. I will def be talking about how my shop is eco-friendly, not all shops are created equally, why it`s important to know who is going to be working on your car, my experience, and that I`m fully insured. Also since this will be right before winter I will be stressing the importance of getting your car protected against the harsh New England winter.



Anyone have any ideas? It`s only 5 minutes max so I`m kind of limited on time but I`d appreciate any creative ideas you may have. Like what should I have them show being done to a car in he shop? Or what else is good to talk about?



Also, I`m looking for banners and stuff to hang in the shop to make it look better, since I only have white painted brick walls and a concrete floor. If anyone could let me borrow or can donate any banners or anything of the sort I would be very appreciative. Funds are a bit low at the moment to spend alot of money on the shop, especially since I will be looking to move to a bigger place soon.

The best advice I can give you is to focus on highlighting your competitive advantages. Any extra services you offer, etc. Just avoid saying anything in an attempt to "put down" the competition -- make the message positive all the way.

Agreed with Shiny, don`t put down any competition. The MOST I would ever say along those lines is something like "make sure the detailer you work with is licensed and insured". Aside from that, give a quick overview of your services, what you can do, and why people should come visit you.

Congrats! That sounds great, other than sprucing up the shop - maybe get the wife or girl friend? to take a look and give it the Martha Stewart look. Ladies will be likely to stop by if your place has "the look". Maybe have a car you can show a 50-50 - before/after on the hood or something. Something to highlight your work, you can always add - "and we`re fully licensed and insured" at the end to seal the deal.

What a great opportunity. Get a banner(s) made locally. There are many places that can do them relatively inexpensively. Think of it as a business investment. You want that camera to see the name of your company no matter where they shoot!



You are a cutting edge detailer because you offer services and practices that go a step beyond. You are eco-friendly because..., you have custom solutions for customers, not cookie cutter..., you educate your customer by..., you use specialty products and equipment like...., you don`t just wash cars and wipe on wax, you `correct` paint defects and interior damage...., you are active in the professional detailing community offering experiences and advice on the largest international detailing forum. You are an information source. An expert.



Start making a script of bullet points.

OMG that was nerve racking! I`m a bit of an introvert so I was so nervous on camera, I hope I didn`t stutter too much lol. I talked about headlight resto with a good before/after, did a little clay bar demo about how important it is to clay before waxing so the wax gets a good bond and also pushed my winter protection package a little. A nice young lady gave an on camera testimonial and she was awesome. Can`t wait to see it on TV in a few weeks, just hope it comes out good! Everything was one shoot, no retakes so I really hope I sound ok, my voice was a little shaky at first. And Bill, the reporter Olessa was so good looking, I think I may have just hummana`ed a little LOL!

My segment aired yesterday, it was really good, much better than I expected. Once they send me the link to the permanent video archive I will post it. right now you can see it if you go to WFSB Channel 3 - Hartford, CT News and Weather | Connecticut, click on Better CT. Click on the clip in the lower right of the video box that says Better Deals Explicit. They will prob replace the video after tonight`s episode airs and then archive this one.
