Black Mustang Detail - 08-17-2010, 03:57 PM

I did this detail for a friend of mine a few weeks ago to experiment with M105. My car is in almost perfect shape so using 105 on my car is worthless. I asked him if I could do an exterior detail on his car at a discounted price since it was in need of a detail and the car is BLACK. I haven't detailed a black car in years so it was fun to get my hands on this one. The paint is in BAD shape except for a few areas that were repainted on the rear quarter panel. The roof is moments from forming rust because the paint is so thin and the clear coat is just about gone.

Process:

Wash and all that jazz
M105 with Orange cutting pad/PC
*tried M205 but wasn't needed
PB Black Hole with Red finishing pad/PC
Nattys Red by hand
PB Black Hole on rims with Powercone
PB Trim Restorer on plastics

Before/After Trunk:

Rear After:

Roof After:

Passenger Side After:

Drivers Side After:

Self-Reflection:

The car came out great. The M105 was very easy to work with and did wonders for this car. My before/afters are not that great because I couldn't duplicate the lighting conditions. Not to mention, a wife who doesn't understand what my purpose was. I spent at least 10 hours(with breaks and such) on this car and only charged him $80. I told him it was a $150+ exterior detail but I didn't want to charge him that because I was experimenting with a new product and he's a friend of mine. Doing his car got me 3 potential customers that are interested in the next couple of weeks after it quits raining every other day and I get back from my honeymoon.

Any suggestions for me on my process or pad choice?

I would have still finished down with the 205 or pb ssr1 or PP, or similiar. Would have given you a nicer quality finish.

I need to check out the M105. Need to stock up anyway. My SSRs are about gone. Is this available at B&M stores is this part of the Meguiars line that has to be bought online somewhere?

I do, as long as it's not mine! I love black but it's a pain to keep looking perfect.

I guess I should post some pics of the Mach next to that black Mustang
