2010 Camaro SS - Black and swirled! - 02-15-2010, 09:44 AM

This is my friend's car. He's a cop, so I spit on it. OK that was a corny joke.

Anyways, he picked this car up last June and it's been in serious need of a detail. Lots of swirls, and what pissed me off the most was all the wax in the edges of his stripes. I ended up using Menzerna Super Intensive Polish via LC Tangerine Hydro-Techs, and they left such a nice finish that I was able to go straight to PO85RD with a gray finishing pad.

The worst part about this detail was the weather. Storms were looming all day and finally let out as I was finishing up. My Menzerna SIP was acting up due to the humidity, leaving gummy chunks of polish and dust everywhere, so I ended up re-washing the car in the pouring rain. The car also didn't fit all the way in the garage, so I had to seal the back half of the car while the front got poured on, then back it all the way in, dry the front and finish. What a nightmare!

Wash:
Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo
P21S Wheel Cleaner Gel
Poorboy's APC
Daytona Speedmaster Wheel Brush
Clean Wheel Lug Nut Brush
Sheepskin mitt
Lake Country wash sponge
Pinnacle Microfiber Detailing Mitt
Two-bucket method w/ Grit guards

Clay:
DP Universal Detailing Clay
DP Universal Clay Lubricant

Paint Correction:
Flex XC3401VRG Dual Action Polisher
Lake Country 6.5" Hydro-Tech Tangerine pads
Lake Country 6.5" Flat Gray Finishing Pads
Menzerna Super Intensive Polish
Menzerna PO85RD Micro Polish
Menzerna Top Inspection
3M Automotive Performance Masking Tape

LSP:
??? Mystery Sealant ???
Optimum Opti-Seal on wheels, exhaust tips, door/trunk/hood jambs

Tires, trim, etc:
303 Aerospace Protectant on all trim
Poorboy's Bold 'N Bright on tires
Menzerna Polishing Cream on exhaust tips

I spent a good bit of time with Menzerna Top Inspection and a microfiber getting all the wax out of the edges....

Test spot time!

Broke out the trusty little PC7424 with 4" pads for the bumper. I was working PO85RD in this picture.

Leave me alone, I'm polishing!

OK, now the second worst part of this detail. I couldn't get any "after" shots. I was stuck in the tiny one car garage, and it was dark and pouring outside. These were the only shots I managed to take.

BUT, you know I wouldn't do that to you guys. My friend was nice enough to take some pics of the car a few days later.

not to be picky ......but what your calling swirls is from improper toweling of the car...spider web scratches. swirls to me are caused from improper buffing and compound residue that is hanging out in the paint.

Swirls are swirls no matter what caused them it doesn't matter in my opinion.... most of the time though it is from improper wash technique.

If there are circles around the sun those are "Swirls" weather they are from washing, buffing, "toweling" whatever lol

Huh......Wha

Thanks! Well...what do you want to know? It's up there with some of the most durable products I've tried, it's pretty damn slick, and looks good. Ease of use is pretty good, but not like Four Star or Wolfgang. If you have any specific questions, I'll be glad to answer to the best of my abilities.

Oh, and Pockets...thank you sir

Hey man there are swirls in that paint still!

Beautiful correction work on the SS Now that's how a new black Camaro should look. The reflections are awesome

It's not anything right now - just a prototype. The sealant will be released soon, after we get the formula figured out to our liking. Almost there.

That car would look good dirty in my driveway. But it sure looks good all cleaned up. i appreciate the pictures that tell a story. I know how hard it is to get the same angle to show the change created without making it appear that you may be hiding something. Nice work!
