New Brakes & Detail - 12-20-2009, 05:48 PM

I've been researching and mulling over new rotors and pads for a while. The Dealer wants over $1,200 for new rotors and pads! I finally settled on www.brakeperformance.com. The prices were so much less than everyone else so i was concerned over quality. After reading reviews and some PM's with Jaguar forum users I went for it.

The rotors and pads came in three boxes. The rotors were heavy!

I used a Mechanic that works on my Nissan and does excellent work. He charged a flat fee to install the brakes so with his price plus the parts I saved half the cost of the dealer! Plus, the dealer would not have had dimpled and slotted rotors! The Mechanic said he was impressed with the quality of the rotors. That made me feel better!

The day I got them installed it warmed up to the high 50's so I washed the car using some products I had just received from Autogeek thanks to a present from my Sister-in-Law. I cleaned the wheels with 1Z Wheel cleaner, man they were dirty after the mechanic was done with them! I then washed the car with Wolfgang wash soap.

I applied a coat of Poorboy's Wheel Sealant to the rims and EX to the car. The tires got a coat of Pinnacle Black Diamond. I finished with a wipe down of Pinnacle Spray wax.

It was great getting the package from Autogeek. They added some foam pads and a bottle of Griot Spray Wax. I'm looking forward to trying the wax.

Thanks. I have driven that much yet, but so far they feel better. The Jag stops more quickly. I'm getting more dust than before but I suspect that is because the pads are so new. The wheel sealant will help. Hopefully this coming weekend I can find time to clean them again and add another coat of the wheel sealant.

There is an absolutely HUGE difference from my stock brake and these After driving in the snow I find that they brake better in the snow as well I was thinking that they were gunna be worse cause they grab more and would kick on the anti lock brakes but nope they work grate with gradual pressure

How do the rotors affect pad life or are they affected by pad material?

to answer your other question about the brake in they said take it up to 45 than gently apply the brakes to 5 than repeat process like 5 times.......than drive soft on them for 50 - 100 miles

$1200 for new rotors and pads?

I could buy three more running cars for that money.
