Rasky's Auto Detailing: Black '09 Chevy 2500HD "BMFT" - 11-29-2009, 09:07 PM

2009 Chevy 2500HD pickup. Big Mother ******* Truck! (BMFT)

Sorry, not a full write up this time, but I wanted to at least show a few pics of the truck I worked on this weekend.

Since this thing had an additional 12" of overall height between the lift and new wheels/tires, cleaning it in my garage was obviously not an option. I've never been a big fan of working on cars off site. I really like the way I have things set up at my shop and having lots of room to move around the vehicle is something I enjoy having. I also don't like having to haul all my detailing stuff to a new location as I always seem to forget something. That and I would much rather detail a car without an audience. Regardless, the owner really wanted the truck done and I needed the cash with x-mas just around the corner.

I arrived at the location provided to me via email. I had no idea what condition the truck was in but was told it came directly from the dealership to the performance shop, and had not been washed yet. I also had no idea what the area I was to be working in looked like.

Here is what I walked into Saturday morning...LOL, I had planned on finishing this truck in one day!

After washing and claying I gave up on pictures as there was a few people around and I knew this was going to take more time than I had planned. Here was a shot of the clay after one of the vertical sections. After taking this pic I put the camera away and got to work as I was going to need every minute I had to get this thing done.

Paint condition wasn't too bad, typical light marring with a few RIDS and I opted for a 2-step correction; SIP white LC/PO85RD black LC on the rotary. There was also some sort of over spray all over the truck...not sure where it came from but I had only brought mild clay, which was not working the best and added some extra time to the job.

The owner also had me de-badge the truck as he was going for the "murdered out" look. All lights were being covered with a tinted film, which is why they are not on the truck.

I snapped a few pics as I finished, again nothing crazy and I apologize for the overall lack of pics.

"BMFT" Wheels/tires waiting to be installed.

About 15 hours invested.

Thanks for looking,
Rasky

The third picture really looks great. I kept going back and forth between it and the first picture to take in the transformation.

Excellent job.

You're bringing back nightmares about the Yukon XL I did over the summer. It was not black, however...it was fire engine red. But still...acres of rock-hard GM clearcoat took me two whole days.

Great work on the BMFT!!!

Even sometimes I, in a moment of what could only be described as pure sanity, question the rationality of this obsession.
