Maybe we've asked this before, but why are there zip tie ends sticking out of the rear wheel wells???

Teck, no offense intended here. I don't mean to be rude but there is no way to say this delicately. From reading a couple of the other posts in this thread, I'm not the only person wondering what's up?

It's readily apparent that you like cars but are you really in to detailing? I'm sorry but I just don't see anything to write home about in these pictures. The cars pictured look like they're on the car lot in transformers when he buys the Camaro. You know, one of those type car lots. Is the car intentionally sprayed in a matte finish. If so what is the purpose? If that is "the look" you're after, how do you know when you're there? Then did you pay for a photo shoot? Obviously swirls, shine, slick finish and perhaps even clean aren't priorities. I haven't seen the interior but this isn't detailing in the traditional sense.

I'll admit right now that I also "don't get" rat rods that are left in primer or painted to look old etc. I fully appreciate the mechanical aspects of these cars but I'm a little clueless here. The Z looks like a fixer upper that you're going to get ready for paint, yet you said the wire tires were there from when it was painted. Please enlighten me and other curious members a little further.

Side note: Do you set the camber on the rear wheels negative for drifting?

I think we're all looking at it from a detailing perspective when he's presenting it from a "drifting" perspective. I don't think many detailers - myself included - are going to "get it." Not saying anything is wrong with the photos or anything, most of us just don't understand it because the matte primer and all is not something most of us consider a palette for detailing.

Going back to my question of the zip ties - why wouldn't you just clip the ends off or use some new screws to attach the trim piece? Is there something I'm missing by leaving the pigtails just hanging out like that?

I agree, I just don't understand the vantage point. What is the objective of having a "primed" drift car. Can these enthusiasts have shiny cars? Is it a cool factor? Is it because they're getting banged up all of the time and "primer" so to speak just makes sense? I haven't followed this particular motor sport so I'm sincere when I say I don't know what the end goal is here.

One of the most appealing factors about drifting, is that it is one of, if not the only motorsport, short of drag racing, where a beat to hell 30 year old beater can hand a Viper it's a$$. The Matte finish is a trend in the sport, as it adds to the minimalist idea. I've seen guys enter primered cars in shows with stickers on the windshield that say "I like mine with no shine". I also knew a kid that any time he had some mishap while drifting, he'd note it on the car. Say there's a dent in the rear quarter, he'd take a sharpie, and right such n such race track turn 3, tandum run, and the date.

In Teck's defense he did say he "cleaned up the Z"....it's just a matter of preference.

Lots of motorsports set up negative camber to improve handling characteristics, and drifting is one of them, although I'd say in this case it probably has more to do with the weight distribution over the rear wheels with the spacers.

Sorry to be so bold, bein such a newb to the forum, but this is the closest thing to flaming that I've seen since I've been a member, and I just hope we aren't goin down that road.

I reread this thread because I have been known to take things too far. That said, I don't see anything that resembles a real "flame" here. I know in my circumstance, I just don't "get it" and have asked for a little insight. Reality is that this is a detailing forum where members show off shiny cars that they have worked on. Everyone needs a reference point in order to make a comparison. Most detailers have certain expectations. This thread would likely be perfectly normal on a Driftin' board but as a finished product this isn't what most are used to seeing on a detailing board. The problem as I see it is the Teck hasn't responded and so a post gets added here or there with the hope that there is some clarification. Pretty soon there are a bunch of posts and it looks like the OP is being "ganged up on". This thread has stretched out over days, I don't think that is what has happened here.

Valid point...that was really an afterthought of my post, but I didn't mean to sound so accusatory, more just a general voicing of concern....

If nothin else I was tryin to provide a little insight into the whole drifting thing...
