Sully's Detailing: 996 and S500 - 10-23-2009, 12:13 PM

South Florida Premiere Detailing Service!!

It was very hard to get beofre pictures of the 996 due to its color.
Wash: Megs Gold
Wheels: P21S Wheel Gel
Clay: Wolfgang clay and clay lube
Compound: SIP Orange LC
Polish: Wolfgang Finishing Glaze White LC
LSP: Wolfgang Paint Sealant applied by hand

S 500
I was detailing his 996 last week and he asked me to detail his S 500. The car was in bad shape. The whole car looked dull and had swirls and scratches all over the paint. It looked like it was months since the last detail. So Mike and I went to work this morning started at 8:30 and finished at 5
Started off by washing the rims, tires, and wheel wells with P21S Wheel Cleaner. Then Washed the whole car down with jdmfanboin Soap using the two bucket method. After I started off with Meguiars 105 and Orange Cutting pad. This got most of the major swirls and scratches out of the car. After I used Menzerna Intensive Polish and an orange cutting pad to get the rest of the little imperfections out of the paint. Once that was finished I came back with Wolfgang Finishing Glaze and a white polishing pad. To finish it off I used Pinnacle Souverän Wax and a blue finishing pad. This all took about 8 hours of work.

If you dont see I posted before pictures of each part of the car and close up and it was in the sun. I had to sharpen the before pictures for the swirls to show it.

There are only 2 pictures of the 996 in the shade the rest are in the sun

OK I do know what your saying they are in the sun...

this is in the sun also

and I KNOW that car is far from swirl free..

you need body pannel and the sun in the frame...

otherwise it's smoke and mirrors

How are these not in the sun. There are not swirls there. There are no smoke and mirrors here

I think what he was saying is that the before picture has the sun in the reflection shot to show the swirls so the after picture should have the sun in the shot to help show the difference.

I must be missing something.

Pictures are very often misleading and I once posted a thread with wash only and after polishing pictures and it was very difficult to see the difference.

In this case, the befores look bad, the afters look great.
If it's smoke & mirrors, you fooled me.
I think they look great.

I understand the purpose of the sun pictures on black, but is tough sometimes for after pictures in the sun on the direct spots where the before pic were taken. Sun changes location after 8 hours and depending on where the sun is and where the car is, it is not always an ideal situation,

The car stayed in the same position all day I started at 8am and finished at about 6pm. A used all the sun i could get for the after pictures. there not much more you can do if the sun isnt directly over the car.

I try to get the halogens in the after photos, works just as well as the sun in my opinion. But as Charles said I think the after photos look great. Good job Sully. Any good detailer could tell the difference by looking at the photos that you posted. Some of us are just a bit anal, that's why we are good at what we do.

What are you using as a buffer? Orbital, Flex or Rotary?
