black 99 Olds Alero detailed w/ pics - 11-02-2008, 09:53 PM

I picked this car up friday night which is when I took the before pics at the car wash where I did the clay work,
so the before pics are'nt the best. The sky here in Carlisle has been completely overcast so the after pics also
are'nt the best as I had no sun to show the reduction in paint defects. I have tried to use the flash to show the
difference in the paint condition. The marks that show in the flash can't be seen with my eyes without the help
of the flash. I would say that this job turned out to be my best yet. Compliments or criticism welcome, Dave
Here is the process that I used.
wash with Dawn because that is the only detergent I have right now that contains no wax.
clay with Megs smooth surface clay kit.
Cyclo w/ green polish pads and C.A.S. light swirl remover.
Cyclo w/ white finish pads and Megs deep crystal polish.
L.S.P. was Megs. NXT 2.0.
cleaned trim with Mothers Back to Black.
cleaned interior with tuff stuff and topped with Armor all leather care.
Cleaned engine bay with some cheapo tech 2000 degreaser and it turned some of the black plastic white!
I was able to restore the black to it with the Mothers B2B. Won't use that stuff again. BTW what do you
guys use that is effective under the hood?
Top off engine bay with CD2 engine detailer.
I did the wheels with collinite I.W. and tires with no touch wet look non foaming.

Very nice work on the car...the dark colors are a bear to work with!

Very nice!
Making a car that is taken care of regularly look good isn't too tough. Mine for example.
Starting with one like that which that hasn't had a lot of care is the challenge.

What is "C.A.S. light swirl remover"? I don't recognize the acronym.
It seemed to do the job for you.

I failed to mention that the interior turned out great, too.

I thought the same about the interior. What a great turnaround. The exterior looks shiny and wet.

As far as a engine degreaser - a APC cleaner like Poorboy's works well. I have also used a product called grez off - I got that here at the boat shop I work at.

Hi Trent, Thanks for the suggestions. Do you think I could get that stuff at Bass Pro in HBG.?

I think you will find that an APC has much more versatility in your line of products than just a degreaser. An APC (Poorboys, Meguiars) you can dilute for a variety of different jobs - carpet cleaning, upholstery, engines and even windows. A quart of APC can go a long way.

Grez Off is a product you will quite possibly find at a local boat place - Lakeside Marine - Towne Marine. I doubt Bass Pro will carry it. Also using grez off - you have to be careful not to let dry while using.

Great job

Great looking car, but I am a bit biased

Are you planning on doing any mods to it?
