Did a little work on black this weekend... - 04-14-2008, 12:24 AM

Whew! Two black SUVs and a big black sedan. My favorite client (with the S65 AMG) called me on Saturday afternoon and said he would pay whatever he needed to pay for my babysitter if I could come out right away and polish up his cars. I guess they have been sitting outside for two months and were showing it badly. So I did what I had to do and spent the next six hours getting the '08 Range Rover, '0something Mercedes GL 450, and '07 S65 back into shape somewhat. Actually, most of the work was done to the Range Rover. The thing is only a few months old and it was absolutely hammered! The other two were washed and I put a coat of Danase Wet Glaze on them just to get them through the next couple weeks until I can spend a little more time on them. I did a wash, clay, and full polish on the Range before I put the DWG on though. I'll polish it off in two weeks and use something a little more durable.

I used Danase Swirl Abolisher II to polish out the mad swirls. I worked it till the Edge blue pad basically just buffed it all off for me. I would have loved to use my Flex on it, but it spits out too much backing plate and on a black vehicle especially I don't want that to happen. Let alone on a $60K Mercedes. Anyway, I thought it did a perfect job on clearing up the swirls without haze, so I moved on to the Wet Glaze. I didn't take pics of the S65 because it still needed some love (as does the GL) but I'll post lots of pictures in a couple weeks. I'm booked up through the end of April, so it should be a great month for showing off a bit.

The cars look great, the black looks flawless...and what a view!!!

I like beer. On occasion I will even drink a beer to celebrate a major event such as the fall of communism or the fact that our refrigerator is still working.

Nice work on the rover Jngrbrdman. What did you mean when you said that "the flex spits out too much backing plate?" Is there a problem with the backing plate, or are you just saying it's more machine then you needed?

Mine has issues with the backing plate grinding against the housing and melting it. I don't know what the problem is and I've been too busy to take the time to make the calls to get it resolved. I'm just holding out for the Edge to finish their adapter backing plate so I can find out if maybe I just got a bum plate on this one or if it is a design flaw in general. The machine is basically useless sitting in my garage right now because I can't use it if it is going to spit out bits of plastic all over the paint that get run over by the pad. I can only imagine what that would do to the surface.

Yeah, if you face east up here then you can't help but get mountains in the shot. lol Salt Lake City is built in a valley, but mostly it is along the western bench of the Wasatch mountains. I like detailing up in the hills because you can see them better. Down in the valley all you get are trees and you can't see the mountains as backdrops.
