'02 Z06 Corvette detail (56K = KaBoom) - 04-06-2006, 09:39 PM

Hey all!!

This Z belongs to a relatively new client of mine...he also owns that TrailBlazer SS that I posted pics of a while back. He is a super nice guy and found me after having problems with his former detailer. The owner stated that the quality of his work went down as his prices went up. Finding Zaino smeared in the Z06 badges and between the body seams confirmed the client's statements to me. His loss...my gain (and apparently the owner's gain too).

The car is a 43K mile vehicle that was at one time a daily driver and to this day is not garaged. At one point in its life the car was completely wet sanded and the level of OP is the best I've seen on any C5. However, since it sits outside it has again gotten some acid rain damage. You can see a few of the pits in the bright sun shots I'll post. I advised the owner not to get it done again (until it becomes garaged full time) as he plans on keeping the car. It is one of those "learn to live with it" deals IMHO. Such is life in the smog ridden ATL.

I last polished the car with ZPC and sealed with Z-5 in early February. He brought the vehicle in to a local speed shop to have some work done last month and they washed the car...with rocks in their mitts is my guess!! Everything I had done for the last detail was completely undone...and then some. The car had heavy marring from stem to stern. I tried to capture some pics of it in these "before" shots...

That is marring not a reflection to the right of the sun...

Same thing to the left of the sun in this photo...

Below is a description of the products and process used.

Enjoy,
Mike

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo

Polish with Poorboy's SSR3 and a LC orange pad with my PC set at 5-6. SSR3 because Vette clear is HARD!!!

Polish with Poorboy's SSR2 and a LC white pad with my PC set at 5-6.

Seal with Poorboy's Natty's Blue Paste Wax.

CCW rims are uncoated and were polished with AIO and sealed with PB's wheel sealant. The exhaust system was polished with PB's Pro Polish. All plastic trim has Meg's #40 while the tires and wells have AA.

I'd say about 95% marr free...

That's a pretty good looking Z06. Great job! I just wish the owner would learn to take better care of those seats.

Great work!!!

Any issues using SSR3 on the vette? I know Vette clear is hard-Dad and uncle both have Vettes, but I've never used SSR3-always 2.5. I've never been able to get everything out of the Vette's paint though. Hmmm-now you have me thinking.

audiboy that is 43K miles worth of a 260lbs occupant...I'd say those seats are in pretty darn good shape.

Thanks Pat!!

91LSMAN SSR3 works very much like 2.5. Stays wet fairly long even on hot surfaces, dusts like mad but cuts very well with the LC orange pad. It does micromar...even on Vette clear...but the SSR 2 took it right out.

I guess I just have a higher standard for leather care than most. If conditioned properly and regularly, those seats could be mint looking even after 43K on the odometer.

Cool. Might have to try it out this summer sometime.

Nice work and write up. I really enjoy yours posts!

You're still posting your 'signature' shot -4th from the bottom (LOL).

I've had good luck using Optimum Compound & Polish on Vette clear too FWIW.

SSR3 has wayyy too much cut for my taste, but you seem to have it down.

THANK YOU all for the very kind words!!!

mgm2003 It does have lots o' cut...especially with the LC orange pad but makes working with the Vette clear go fairly well with the PC. I would not recommend that combo for softer paints for sure.
