    Meguiar`s M105/M205 Polish/Pad Application Guideline Chart

Meguiar`s M105 Ultra Cut Compound and Meguiar`s M205 Ultra Finishing Polish Application and Pad Guide.

Meguiar`s M105 and M205 are very difficult to rate in terms of cut and finish because each one has literally limitless potential. These products cut over time, so the total amount of cut is set in stone over a given time frame. Instead these polishes provide a near constant level of cut for the length of time they are worked.

The term aggressiveness in this chart refers to the rate of cut vs. the amount of cut.

As a disclaimer it should be noted that Meguiar`s does not officially endorse the 7207 pad for use with a Dual Action Orbital Polisher such as a Porter Cable or G110. We understand this is an exceptional foam to use on a Dual Action and that many of our customers will use it as such. Care should be taken to ensure that the pad is fully dry before use with a Dual-Action polisher, and always use in conjunction with the appropriate Meguiar`s backing plate. [/FONT]

Special thanks to Mike Pennington and Jason Rose from Meguiar`s Inc. for helping me to build the charts and ensure accurate information.

I`m certainly not the expert on 205 but I will chime in. I have seen 205 create holograms with a PC. That doesn`t mean it will every time, it means I got lazy and chose the wrong pad on a soft paint. Choose the right pad for your paint and use the right technique and you will be fine. I still use 205 all the time without issues.

    Re: Meguiar`s M105/M205 Polish/Pad Application Guideline Chart

You would want the D/A to rotate as much as possible to break down the 205, keeping the pad flat as much as possible. Another thing that might help is switching to the backing plate for 5" pads vs the 6" pads, and your machine will not have as much pad size to overcome and should rotate easier.

I don`t know how its possible to create holograms with a PC anyway. Those little jewels are usually reserved for people using a Rotary improperly, i.e., with the edge of the pad digging into the paint, and not coming back over with the pad flat, to smooth out and refine the compound long enough.

Meguiars 205 is an excellent finishing polish, and can cut better with a more aggressive pad.
Their 105 product is usually the one used to correct paint, but other polishes, like the Menzerna line will do the same and without the "drama" that 105 goes through before it gets to working good.

Not really sure what you are describing regarding the damage, second the vote for a picture, so we can help you better.

If that comment was directed at me, let me explain. I was working on a Honda with a softer clear. I was trying to be a bit aggressive with the 205 and used an orange pad. The correction was fine but when it was pulled into the sun there was a reflection similar to a hologram although not the same as buffer trail pattern. I could just tell that there was a pattern cut into the paint that did not finish out. I have worked on some pretty soft paint, with a rotary no less, and had no issues. I am pretty good at matching the polish/pad to the finish but just goofed on this one.

I finished the job with PO85RD and a crimson hydro pad and the result was fantastic.

Not really sure I agree with that statement. There are a lot of experienced guys and gals here using some form of DA all the time. Not just for the rotary challenged.

I used M205 with a Rotary and a PC and only have one problem with some holograms on a super soft black finish ( Just looking at it give it holograms ), but never ran into any problems using any pads with it over the past 4 years.
    Thanks Todd for the chart!

Sorry, I meant to say to get the compound to work, not break down because we all know it doesnt.

    Thanks for catching this.

    Re: Meguiar`s M105/M205 Polish/Pad Application Guideline Chart

I suck at 205!! Ive tried numerous times without much luck. Love 105 enough to take a bath in but just cant get the handle on 205.

But I do believe that Mr. Helme`s suggestion with 205 is to work it a very short amount of time. Since these are non diminishing abbrasives they continue to cut unlike PO85. Maybe some day Ill actually figure it out.

205 work great with a lake county tangerine hydro pad for cleaning up and for soft paint use a lake county blue finishing pad.
