Hey guys - this was today`s detail. I have a backlog of c&b`s but this one was worth skipping over for.

Car is a 993 Turbo, in exceptional mechanical condition but with some paint issues. The owner mentioned to me on the phone that he saw a "variation" on one of the fenders. When I arrived it was clear the car had been re-sprayed to some extent. When I looked at it in the sun I thought it had been detailed badly too, but I was wrong (sort of).

First thing to do though, was remove the rear fender clear bra.

Unfortunately we had some paint come off due to bad re-spray; I think the clear bra was applied before the paint had dried. Luckily it isn`t an issue, since he is putting body colored guards over the area.

Next was to wash and take befores...

Just looks like swirls, I know. But it`s silver for crying out loud. In person it looked like halograms, which is what I thought it was (like I mentioned...)

So I pulled `er in and then it became clear. The car had been wetsanded, all of it and was not buffed. I was confused. The *entire* car was covered in sanding marks (I`d guess 1500?), but was not buffed at all, like they sanded then said "whatever, im going to bed".

    MMMM, sandy.

I cracked out the ptg at this point and that`s where things got mysterious. The front end was original, but sanded quite heavily. The rear end was all over the place, from 100 mil to over 1000 mil, and sanded. The panel he mentioned to me (pass rear fender) was resprayed and some of it was actually sanded and not buffed before clear, so there was a patch of sanding marks that is under the clear. Lovely. I actually found sand paper marks on some of the mouldings. Hah.

I actually tried 106ff on a white pad just for kicks to see if I was dealing with horrible clear coat failure madness. I wasn`t, it did nothing and I got no paint on the pad.

    So process was!

    HTEC/wool @ 1800

    SIP/orange @ 1700

    106ff/white @ 1400

    Cleaner Fluid via PC

    Swissvax Concorso

    and 13 hours.

here are the afters from the shots above... tried to keep the lighting in the same position even though a lot of time had passed.

And glamour shots. Sorry, it was getting late-ish.

In the end it came out 99%. The 1% was that spot I mentioned, where the scratches are under the clear. It`s been awhile since I really, really laid into a car, so it sort of felt good.

    I`m going to bed! :buffing:

Looks awesome, how do you like the swissvax as compared to zymol and victoria?

I hope their cleaner fluid is easier to use than HD-Cleanse, that stuff is ridiculous.

In case you are wondering why I am asking, in the near future I will be buying another high end wax, and given zymol`s recent bad attitude on detailingworld.co.uk (the word zymol is iltered there now) as well as their price increase, its probably going to be swissvax.

The 993 series 911s are my personal favorite. Maybe its because I had the most success with them on Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed....

Silver and Concorso really get along.

CF is a little easier to use than HD Cleanse. I like Concorso better than Concours, but it`s a little more expensive. I haven`t tried Victoria wax, but I would like to. When my Concours done I don`t think I will buy more, but I will buy more Concorso when it`s gone.
