Need Help! Rear Break Light Replacement. - 08-19-2008, 04:43 PM

Does anyone know how to pop off the rear tail light assembly on an 2003 Nissan Altima? Break light bulb is blown and from what I can see the only way to get at it is to pull off the lens assembly, but i can't figure out if it just pops off or needs a special tool to get at the clips. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There should be some nuts or something like that on the back of the assemble in the trunk ....the lid if you will should pop off and allow you access to the bulbs...most of those are sealed assembles so you pop off the back of the unit to gain access...my Murano and BMW are that way

Actually I don't know a thing with regard specifically to the Altima tail light assembly. That said, many cars have the whole assembly attached as a unit. Typically you release the pod inside the trunk by way of clips or locking nuts.

Edit: Beemer's post hadn't hit the thread when I was typing this but I say ditto.

You might be able to try pulling back the trunk carpeting and making sure you have to remove the entire assembly. Most vehicles have a way to change the bulbs without removing the entire light assembly via a "turn style" bulb holder.

I don't believe in grit guards.

I would go on a Nissan site and ask the members there, the only thing I know for sure is if the bulb is burnt on let's say the left side you should change the right side at the same time,so once you learn how to remove the burnt bulb, remove the other side that is still working .

I can only speak for myself, but it just seems like these guys can usually answer about any question we can come up with. Even though you didn't get a direct answer, you were pointed to a solution.
I'm spoiled by that.

My 2002 need to remove whole assembly. Pull back carpet and remove nuts holding assembly on ,then pull lamp away from body then replace the bulb. No easy door like some cars have.

Remove the tie wrap that holds the wires for the light. Behind them you will find a nut that holds the light in place (2 nuts in total).Once you remove them (size 8mm)you can take the whole light assembly out from outside. Then turn electrical connector remove bulb and replace
