Tire Pressures

With so many of us traveling for the holidays, I thought I would suggest checking tire pressures before you hit the road. I happen to be as bad about checking tires as I am about keeping the vehicles clean. I check them weekly.

One thing that affects us northerners that not everyone is aware of.
Your tires lose about 1 lb. of pressure for every 10 degrees the temperature falls.

I check them every time I fill up on gas. It's easy to check them then, since you really can't do anything else while you're filling up.

I just visually inspect them when getting gas. It's pretty easy to spot a tire that is really low. It's the 2-5 lb. difference that requires a tester for me.
I'm also a firm believer in running the pressures recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

I do check the oil at every gas fill, though. I got in that habit as a kid when some of my cars needed oil as often as they needed gas.

Me too! It's so easy to check them and then if I need to add air it's right there.

That's a great heads-up for everyone CharlesW. It amazes me how few people check their tires regularly if even at all. Far too many people never even bother checking their tire pressures until one of their tires is completely flat. They figure that unless there's a leak the air will always be there, but the truth is tires leak continuously even though it's usually insignificant. Especially with gas prices being what they are now it should be second nature for us all to be checking our tires regularly.

Well, I'm riding on rubber bands(235/35/19), so I find it best to check them as often as possible. I can't afford to ruin these tires because of improper inflation.
