Angry Back to tapes - 07-14-2006, 03:14 PM

My cd changer (5 years old) went feet up the other day. Still loads discs, but the display won't turn on. I have way more important things to do with my "paychecks" (like alot of people, not enough moneyfor extra stuff), and in my opinion, by the time the bills are brought down, the other car will be paid off and I could get rid of this car. Nevertheless, should I take the changer out and just be rid of it? The dealer (Best Buy) way overcharges for even a consultation, so I think I'll just stick with tapes and the radio.

Is it an RF modulated changer (i.e. plays the cd's through an FM station)? If I remember correctly, sometimes the modulator unit goes bad and youy can get a replacement. The cost might be cheaper than replacing an entire unit, but probably not much.

Another option: You might could look into getting a used iPod from someone.

I don't believe in grit guards.

Yeah, it has the modulator built into the chassis. I think I'll check with another branch of where I bought it and see what they think.

I tried the XM gig for a little while, but Sirius fits my eclectic taste a bit better. Plus, you get Howard Stern and the Playboy channel .

One thing is for sure: If I could afford the XM/Sirius I'd have a receiver at home mainly, and record from it. But no, I'm going to just hold off till the backdue stuff is paid off. Priorities.
